[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Ruger GP100 (Page 1 of 2)

| Seriously has Ruger temporarily halted production on these? I've been trying to get a GP100 in 6" stainless steel for over a year now. My LGS has only been able to get two blued ones in during this time....these are harder to find then a AR would of been two months ago. |

They are out there...as with any gun these days it's hit or miss as to whether anyone has what you're looking for. Most dealers can't even order specific guns anymore and just sell whatever happens to come in. Yup, my LGS can't order anything they just send him whatever they got.... |
|
All Ruger handguns are built in batches, rather than building all of the product lines in parallel. This is what allows them to have so many different handgun models in their catalog. They build Xthousand GP100s, then close the line and build Xthousand SP101s, then build LCRs, etc.
When a certain model is in short supply, it usually just means that they haven't built any in a while. |

I see, the last time I seen any GP100's in stock on a website was last summer/fall... |

Yep, Springfield Armory does the SAME thing |

According to a factory rep, they have "production runs". They will stop production of one thing to run another. +1. This is it. They will have many sometime in the future. This also creates short supply cycles and keeps demand up. Yup it seems they have been dwindling on GunBroker for the last week theres only a few 3 inch GP's and one 6 inch and a couple months ago there were tons....None added lately. |

Blued > stainless/nickle/chrome any day of the week. You cuh-razy! Blued has it's place for sure, but revolvers sure do look good in stainless... Not for me. granted, I wouldn't turn down a deal on a nice stainless Smith, but I do prefer the classic blued look. |

I don't get it I can't even find a GP100 I was even at Buds Gun Shop in Lexington a week ago and they didnt have ANY! Too bad you are not in Fairbanks, AK. There is a blued model in the gun case at the PX on Fort Wainwright. It is a pretty gun. Good luck in your search. |

Quoted: My LGS is about to run Ruger sale with GP's and SP's on sale. I'm trying to decide between the two in 3". Since my last thread in here about the S&W 65-3 ended up poorly, I'm glad this sale is rolling around. I picked up the 4" GP100 on the way home from work today. They had plenty of the SP's and GP's in stock. 6" GP's as well. |

Nice choice! I was recently trying to get a 2.5" S&W 686 but the current market has driven the prices of the pre-lock guns to $900+! too wound up grabbing one the Wileys and I'm glad I did. The Clapp grips are better than the Hogue monstrosities, but they still seem too long for a 3" gun. The proportions are just off. Unfortunately, the aftermarket for GP grips isn't that great. I wound up grabbing a set of the Thai grips from eBay and chopped off about 1/2" from the bottom, rounded off the edges and refinished them. I'm really liking this gun and I no longer lust for that shorty 686 http://www.ricanhavocproductions.com/images/gp100-wiley-1.jpghttp://www.ricanhavocproductions.com/images/gp100-wiley-clapp1.jpg http://www.ricanhavocproductions.com/images/gp100-wiley-clapp2.jpg You are killing me with this Wiley Clapp stuff! Makes me want to get rid of my four inch model and pick up the Clapp version :( |

I plan on loading up some 38 specials this week. I need to get my tired old model 38 air weight out to the range. Thursday is probably doable. |
| What's really bad is I bought my Wiley Clapp GP100 last month and I haven't even been able to take it out because my "standard" 3" GP is going to my bff for her birthday and if she knows I bought the WC it will ruin the surprise. So, I've got this new, awesome, cool revolver that I have to hide until next month! ACK!!! |

Quoted: My buddy ordered a Ruger Mark III from a LGS in January of 2011 and still hasn't got it. The day Newtown happened, I went down and bought 2 - SP101's before the panic made them evaporate. I wish I would of bought the GP100 as well. Move to North AL My LGS had all of those on sale this weekend along with many Ruger Factory reps helping out with sales and questions.............. |

I grabbed one of the distributor exclusive 5" barrel gp100's last week after looking for one on and off for a long time. To me the 5" barrel is perfect. I agree, a 5" full lug GP100 would be the perfect length, I really wish Ruger would make it a standard size. For now I'll have to live with my Wiley Clapp 3" and standard 3" GP's |
