Hey all this is my first post on this forum an well i'll get down to it. I have a chance to get a Ruger Redhawk stainless steel revolver. It has a 7 1/2 in. barrel and is in 44 mag. The asking price is $400 and it has a scope mount on it but no scope and my ? is do yall think that is a fair price on it.

Does it have the Ruger Rings which attach to the barrel or an aftermarket set up?
The RH is an extremely strong Revolver (It is also rather robust and heavy). The 7.5" RH 44 mag can hit 1480 fps with a 340 cast. It is a Wolf in Sheeps clothing. If the gun has not been drilled and tapped for a Bastard mounting system and it is in excellent condition it would be a good price in this area. It would be a bit higher chambered for the 45 Colt as it was dropped in the RH.

Don't shoot it!  Just put it away!  Otherwise you will be selling body parts to support your 44 ammo crack habit.  I have that same pistol and it's like Lays potato chips, ya can't shoot just one box. I just went through a few hundred rounds this weekend and I'm data mining the net looking for a deal on more ammo.  Enjoy it and look at Simmons for some afordable scopes if your not into the "Serious" shooter mode.

I had nothing but bad luck with the Simmons Handgun scopes. They do not hold up under the recoil of the magnum loads. I shoot a stainless Redhawk in 41mag & have had on of two scopes for many years and thousand rounds. This picture is with the Leuopold 2X on the gun. I also have a Burris 2X that I mount from time to time.

No -If you are shooting .44mag you just HAVE to reload .Lead bullet reloads for the 44 mag are the most cost effective area to start reloading. Lead will do about everything  you need in a 44 , it's a perfect match. No need to go progressive, any old single stage (literally -hit the tag sales and /or ask at the local shops)press will do or invest in a turret. Couple of hundred dollars will get you everything you need includeing a good scale and a tumbler, way less if you scrounge around.
Decent handloads can be built for 15-20cents each, seems from what I see factory loads are 40cents on up to a buck each for some of the semi custom heavy bullet loads and you can brew up anything from light target loads to heavy bullet thumpers
