I bought this Series 70 reissue new and I am getting close to that 2k rounds mark. Thiis gun is loose but I never had a malfunction of any kind. I mainly shoot my own cast 230 gr round nose over a moderate load of red dot. Last night I have my first stove pipe. Should I be thinking about replacing some springs? The pistol is bone stock. I am more of a shooter than a backyard gunsmith. I'll take her out again sometime this weekend to see if this was a fluke. I won't own a gun that I can't bet my life on.

| At 2000 rds your due for a new recoil spring at least. Based on the loads you are shooting, I would just stick with the factory rated 16lb spring. Also, if you haven't already, I would definately remove the extractor, and give it and the extractor tunnel a good cleaning. I do mine every 500rds or so. |

Thinking 2000 rounds of moderate reloads shouldn't have ate the recoil spring already.
I've had GI 1911s with original recoil springs & they still worked...kicked a little harder though. May have been a light load, depending how far the brass is tossed out when firing the rest of the ones that worked. Try factory ammo to try & duplicate the malf. Replacing & having spare springs is always prudent too. |

This is good advice, and I'm continually amazed at the number of 1911 owners that have never stripped down their slide components. |
| I fired four mags today without any negative issues. I have to give her a good stipping and cleaning. I will order some replacement springs. I keep a wolf 1911 government spring pack on hand so I will replace the recoil spring. This Colt never gave me one bit of a problem so I guess I might have over reacted alittle. Thanks for the replys. |
