I have found 2 pistols for sale. One is a MilSpec that has had the barrel changed, sights, trigger and other stuff changed. It's for sale at a decent price.
I have also spotted a SA GI model that is virgin- looks new. It is also for sale at a good price. I have an SA Loaded that I use for bullseye and plates- it ain't stock. I also recently got a Kimber Warrior that is stock and dead accurate. I haven't decided if I want to drill and tap the frame for a reddot on it yet or leave it as is. I have wanted a basic 1911- no ambi safety, etc. I know the limitations of the GI model- sights, port, etc. I am leaning to this pistol. Anyone have a good reason to go with either? Getting both isn't an option. It seems like the feeding frenzy going on now hasn't touched the 1911 pistols yet. Any reason to think it might? Jim |

well, i would opt for the mil-spec vs a GI––better bbl (SS and 1 piece), better stock sights, more refined, larger ejection port, etc
on your particular model, h/w, i would be wary and determine WHO did those changes...if its from a reputable smith, then i would take it (the barrel change is my main concern) |

The owner told me it was one of the drop in barrels. He replaced the sights, barrel/bushing, trigger, grips. It looks like he basically set it up for competition or to solve a problem. Or he saw that pistol as a start like many people do. I don't know why he is selling it- he may just have more than he can shoot. This MilSpec is one of the older ones that is blued instead of parked. The SLM barrel doesn't seem like a bad choice, although I would have spent a little more and bought a Bar-Sto or similar match grade barrel. The Videcki trigger he installed looks exactly like what is in my Loaded. The GI is as it comes from SA. If I was going to build one the GI would be my choice. I could then change parts with what I prefer. I don't think either pistol would be a bad choice. Just for fun- since I don't want to give away a deal I might make, what would be a price you couldn't walk away from for either pistol? Jim |

Another vote for waiting, but stick with the Mil-spec model, IMO. Personally, *I* would never buy a used 1911 that had as many changes done to it as you described! ![]() I am going to pass on both. If I find an unaltered MilSpec I might jump on it if it's the right price. Jim |

I went with the Springer GI. Yes the sights are small but I upgraded to a set of King Tappan sights. I have no problems with hammer bite and use this as my carry gun daily. I also changed the grips to a set of Houge grips. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj192/jayg0351/1911009.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj192/jayg0351/ALIM0121.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj192/jayg0351/ALIM0122.jpg It is hard to beat the asthetic appeal of a "GI 45" |

I am in the market for a Mil-Spec but I cannot find one in town to save my life. One shop told me there was a 9 month wait. I heard from another gentleman that SA is having shipping issues from South America. I guess no Christmas gift for little eddy. Don't give up yet!
Hit Gun Broker for options & then do a transfer to your local FFL, IMO. You can also hit Springfield's web site for stocking dealers contact info & e-mail them. I did this to find my NM Trophy a few years ago. Start with close dealers & then work your way out, IMO. Good luck! |
| These guys SGC have GIs ($499) and SS Mil-specs ($649) in stock (as of 11/17/08 at 7:00 a.m.) and do on-line sales. I think their shipping charges are a little stiff, however, but no sales tax. |

I put one in mine and fit the pad part to exactly fit the frame without all that up and down slop that the stock trigger has. I didnt do anything but that and it changed the feel of the whole gun! |

Thanks for the heads-up but shipping is $70 and a transfer is around $25, that's almost $700 so I went with a Government Colt for $750 NIB out-the-door. |

I found an '03-A3 that I will be getting. The CMP is out, or almost out, so this might be my last chance at one I can afford. I have wanted one for a long time but kept blowing my money on other stuff, like gas. Jim |
