| I was curious as what some of you might think would be good modifications to this firearm to make it a reliable defensive firearm? I'm looking to have some work done and use it solely for defensive purposes. |
| Mine was pretty smooth and reliable right out of the box. Sent it to Novak for three dot sights as the stock sights were black, installed a flat checkered MSH, Wilson guide rod with heavy duty recoil spring, and have had it hardchromed(matte finish). It is perfect for my needs. It will feed anything and is extremely accurate. |

Hey! If you can fire a 100 rounds of ammo without any major problems and keep your shots in the "center of mass" at 25 yards on an IPSC or IDPA target you have a great defensive pistol. The problem that arises with carrying a "modified" firearm for defensive purposes is liability. Most personal protection courses deal with this issue. If faced with need to defend yourself and you end up wounding or crippling the shit-for-brains that tried to break into your home, car jack you, etc; you will probably end up defending your actions in a civil proceeding. The plaintiff's attorney would love to find out that you carried a modified firearm that was designed only to kill or maim (as the attorney pours the shit on the jury). Best thing to do is (except for maybe night sights) leave it stock and carry only factory ammo. |
Depends on the jurisdiction, yes? A jury in the South will most likely laugh this sort of case right out of court, IMO. Not to mention there's many ways to defuse the so-called "modified to kill" attack by a lawyer. |
The SA "Loaded" models come stock with Novak low mount night sights. |
+1 My PX9109L did but looking at their website some models come with fully adjustable target sites without night sites. Check www.springfield-armory.com/prod-pstl-1911-fs.shtml for the whole story. |
