I just picked up a new TRP and have shot about 100 flawless rounds this week. I want to make this one of my carry guns as well so I want to replace any MIM parts that might be an issue. I know the slide stop is one but are there others that I should replace as well.
Thanks

According to a "Google" search, Hammer, sear, disconnector, slide stop, thumb safety, magazine release, firing pin stop, MSH, plunger tube, grip safety and i think extractor, ejector. (SA Loaded, info from 1911forum.com)

I have no knowledge about SA MIM from personal experience.

Keep in mind, that is an SA "Loaded". It may not apply to a "TRP".

What is your reasoning to replace the MIM parts. I have a SA TRP no mods and not one of the MIM parts have given me an issue.  Same with both my Kimbers.

I would say unless you have problems with the MIM parts I would not just run off and replace them otherwise you should have bought a different pistol that did not use MIM parts.  The price you paid for the TRP plus replacing all the parts and new Armory Kote would cost you as much as a brand new Ed Brown or Les Baer.

I think the TRP is the one gun I wouldn't worry about the MIM in.

If it doesn't need it then I won't replace it but just wanted to be proactive and see if anyone had any input. I agree my loaded target and my Kimber Raptor have MIM parts and I haven't had any issues so I guess this is a non issue.

The extractor/ejector and the slide stop are the only things I'd really even consider, and frankly you'd be better served to spend the money you would have replacing those parts on better magazines and practice ammo.

For what it is worth, the only change I have done on my TRP is replacing the 2-piece FLGR with a GI setup from EGW.

By the time you reinvest in tool steel parts and having them fitted you're into the Cost of a used Les Baer or Wilson Combat.

Springfields MIM parts are good to go.The only thing that would be a must replace for me is the ILS mainspring housing assembly.

Not to put words in SGBs mouth, but it's useless lawyer lock BS. Nothing more.

Not to mention they use non-standard 1911 parts to assemble it.

Most people who replace the ILS with a normal main spring housing and spring report that it lightens up the trigger pull a bit.

I don't like lawyer locks
, further this particular lawyer lock utilizes a proprietary 28 Lb main (hammer) spring. OEM per JMB's design is 23 Lb and with the quality of today's ammunition many go a light as 19 LB.

As mentioned above, transitioning to an OEM mainspring housing assembly with a 23 Lb spring will reduce your trigger pull by a couple pounds.

I'm off to brownells to look for a new MSHA and a 23 Lb spring.

If you put the parts outlined above in your stock TRP MSH, it will make the ILS inoperable.

That's what I did on one of mine.

That's the cheapest way to go too!

+1

File the frame and funnel to blend, sand blast and call it good.
