I got this SA in a partial trade from my uncle but after handleing t this week I've decided to get another full size. The catch is when my uncle installed the beavertail he took too much off, the beavertail not the frame, and it doesn't work most of the time. Would it be better to have a new one insalled before selling or sell it as is to someone who can swap it out themselves? Also note where the hammer is rounded out to fit the beavertail.

if you get the BT fixed, you probably wont see the money back when you sell it

if you dont fix it, you limit yourself to guys that can fix it themselves, but also reduce your sale price because it isnt working properly

you are going to lose either way, but it's up to you on which avenue you want to take

there already seems to be a pattern with the 1911s you post asking for value.

when you unload this one to get another one, spend the extra money on a factory gun with the features you want instead of getting bubba'd 1911s

See if your uncle still has the original grip safety, if so reinstall it.
Save the swoopy one for your next gun, perhaps.
The bobbed hammer is no big deal...either fine the way it is or find another one close to original.
Unless uncle still has it somewhere...should be commander style on that size gun ?

Yea I keep getting good trades as far as price point goes but with something crapped up. Is it worth $425 as it sits?

My $0.02 is a high maybe, but closeish.  If you have the original beavertail that works then you should see that price.

It came with a regular grip safety the beavertail was a mod. I may be ableto land my hands on the original safety but the backstrap was rounded for the beavertail so it would look weird.

With that bobbed spur hammer and beavertail grip safety it looks weird to me now. Put the original grip safety in it and sell it. Include the fubared grip safety explaining the situation.

The problem is, I probably wouldn't buy that gun from him if he wasn't a friend. I wouldn't know what else had been "Improved" without a thorough going over. I sure as heck wouldn't take somebody's word on it.

Looks like a $300-350 gun to me.  Some rube might go $400 for it.

I think that doesn't look much worse than a SA Loaded factory beavertail install, and 90% of 1911 buyers wouldn't notice or care.   The other 10% are not going to be interested in that gun anyway.
