I took the ambi-safety from my 1911 micro compact and replaced it with a new USGI safety.
Is it just a drop in part or does it need to be fitted? |

Most likely needs to be fitted. Also should be safety checked ensure that when the safety is engaged make sure that the sear does not make any movement. If the sear moves you have taken to much off the safety engagement and you need to find someone who welds or refit another safety. They do make drop in ones but you will not get that nice perfect lock up like a fitted on.
