| Wilson Combat 1911 if money is not an issue. Gotta love 230 grains FMJ stopping power.... If you think shortages of ammo and mags being an issue, Beretta 92FS aka Beretta M9 pistol. You would potentially be able to "acquire" magazines and 9mm ammo from other sources. |

M&P .45 Based on my newfound interest in the M&P (just got my first –– MP45), I'd agree with this as well so long as spare parts are on hand or can be obtained. I say this mainly because I have an inventory of Glock spare parts, but have yet to build up the same for my M&P. Definitely would be a good SHTF .45. |
| I like my M&P full size 9mm (with Winchester 127gr. +P+). Truly reliable, fits better in my hand than the Glock, easier to find my natural poa. Only downside of the M&P (for me anyway) compared to Glock- the way you have to reach in and throw a lever in order to field strip it. I have over 4K rounds through mine, and not one single failure of any kind whatsoever, right out of the box. Next pistol will be M&P 45. |

Super long term collapse, a revolver would be easier to reload ammo for. The semi-auto, you gotta chase brass to reload. Might not be so easy under the circumstances.
Short term - a SIG is not going to be finicky. Assuming the ammo is available. For SHTF you want a combat gun, not a "carry gun". GL |

What ever you shoot the best. As for me it will be the same thing I carry now a 1911 and a revolver as a bug. +1 to both above +1 more Regardless of what famboys say it's always going to be what's best for you. 9mm is the most common pistol caliber today and still the pistol caliber of the military if that matters to you. It's also cheaper than other rounds too which helps in practice and backstock costs. |

How about a good old single action revolver and some practice
