| Looking at a P226 and wondering what thoughts anyone has about this pistol. This is a 9mm. |
|
The 226 is my everyday go to gun and I love it. I traded my Glock 23 for it and have never looked back! One of the best shooting 9mm's I have owned. With the 17-18 round mags, you can shoot all day before you have to reload. You will literally think, "when is this thing going to be empty?"
Great gun! Don't hesitate to get one!!!! |

I'll join the choir. I have a P226 Elite and P226 ST, both in 9mm. After some searching, I concluded that for me the P226 series in 9mm is finest combat handgun on earth. Correction: The finest 9mm on earth. But see, this guy named John Moses Browning invented this real special handgun a long time ago...

-Chris U mean the P226 is better than the P210? |

I'll be the oddball here. I have it in .40 It's pretty darned good in that caliber as well. In fact, I've never shot any other handgun of any caliber more accurately. I know 9mm vs .40 vs .45 caliber arguments can be argued all day, but the P226 is just a good gun. |
| The 226 is a great pistol, but if you shoot thumbs forward you may have an issue with hitting the slide stop with your strong hand thumb preventing the slide from locking back on the last shot. That and the DA/SA trigger are the only reasons I don't own a Sig anymore. |

-Chris JMB invented a great pistol, but like I said, "For me, the P226 series in 9mm is the finest combat handgun on earth". I like shooting 1911's, but I've never owned one. If I could find one as reliable as a P226 9mm, I'd buy it. |

I have a 1995 P226, made in Germany. It has only failed when I failed to make good reloads. Factory ammo has been absolutely 100% since the day I got it.
I needed to put the short trigger in so that I could actually reach the DA pull. It's my only handgun and I don't feel the need for another one. Any other handguns I get will be in my 'want' category. |

I had one for a couple of years, and really liked it. Like everyone else has said, it was reliable and accurate.
I had only one complaint: it's big. A 9mm service auto, in my opinion, should be the size of a Glock, CZ75, or BHP. Since I CCW, I discarded the 226 in favor of a Glock. That being said, it was a spectacular winter carry piece - big trigger guard, easy to shoot with gloves on, and it was concealable under a winter jacket. The rest of the year, it would sit in my safe unless I was headed to the range. |

There a quality made handgun and shoot and handle nice. I had a P226R for a year or so. In my opinion it is one of the best 9mm's out there. Not the best, because best is subjective and even not best to me, but is one of. As a lefty, there controls are pretty lousy. Sig's never had much concern over making more ambidextrous firearms and only really started to think about it these last couple years. Just the same if your a righty than no worries if you don't care about weakhand use. If the pistol fits than, you'll probably love it. |

That and the DA/SA trigger are the only reasons I don't own a Sig anymore. Me gots this problem too. I used to absolutely love shooting sigs...that is until I spent much time shooting the 1911 platform. Now, I have major issues with my thumb and the slide release. Still like the sigs though. P226 is a fine handgun. Fred |
