So im in the process of changing my hammer spring, i got the old spring off and im trying to get the new, lighter one on, however im having a hard time getting the spring compressed enough to get the roll pin back in, Ive watched the videos on youtube using the locking pliers but still cant get it, does anyone else have any ideas?

thank you

A vice would probably help, and, I think there was a guy on Sig Forum who was making a little screw fixture to make that job easier.

An alternative is to replace the old style hammer strut/mainspring assembly with the newer style that uses the plastic base, but this will require some light internal modification to your grip panels.

Put it in a vise(wrap something around the end to protect it) I used a pair of wire stripers to go around the spring and push down.Use a punch instead of the pin, put the thing back in the gun and then put the pin back in.

thanks for the replies, used a vise and pliers method, put in a wolf 20lb spring and like it alot better. went to the range this morning put 100 rounds of american eagle 115g no problems. tried some pmc bronze and the first 3 had no problems. then a primer strike with no result. second strike, still no bang. stoped with the blazer then, had to get back home anyways. that blazer sure does have a big flash. again, thanks for the advice

Been there, done that, didn't like it, don't ever want to change a P6 mainspring again.  I noticed a big change on my 1979 model.
