So im on the verge of buying a new 75b safety model 9mm. But something about the look of the sp01 has me punch drunk in love. However, the $600+ price tag has me a bit put off. Other than the rail, and magazine capacity, are there any major differences between the two? Like grip size etc. Im kinda the "buy once, cry once" guy but these two have me all bent out of shape. Dont wanna pay an extra $150 just for something that looks a hair sexier.

The SP01 is slightly nose heavy. It should help with recoil management. I think the 75 feels better balanced. The SP01 has factory installed night sites and a larger upturned beaver tale. The trigger has a more aggressive curve to it that some folks don't like.

Informative. I know that either one i cant go wrong with. I hear so so many good things about the 75b i cant wait to add one to my collection. Thanks for the input !

If you don't need double action, just get a 75b SA.
I have an SP-01, it's worth the extra $150

In Arfcom tradition, I have both a stainless 75B and a safety model SP01.

I use the SP01 as a LImited gun in USPSA.  The 75B is my nightstand and CCW pistol, and occasionally I use it in USPSA Lim or Production, or various IDPA style matches.

I also have a Kadet kit for the 75, makes practicing a lot cheaper!

In regards to your question, a lot depends on what you plan on doing with the gun(s).  If it's going to be for Range work, either is fine, with a nod towards the SP for it's weight helps out on the recoil, and you get a couple more rounds in the magazine on the 9mm.  If it's for carry, the 75B.  Competition, depends on type and division, either can work.

A good compromise is a P01.  13 rounds, got the heavier rail on it, but not as long as a barrel for a bit easier carry.  There is also the Shadow with it's polymer frame.

CZ's are almost as bad as ARs.  Seems once you get one in the safe, others rapidly appear!

Just to add another modifier here...

Mec-Gar sells a 19 round mag for the CZ 75.

So you can have the standard model pistol with the capacity of the SP-01.

I have two of these mags and they work flawlessly.

I plan on using it occasionally in some idpa stuff. Ive seen the mec gar mags and good to hear they preform well, cause theyre priced pretty decent. Im leaning more toeard the safety model, as this would aid in my times in idpa shoots, being able to draw in single action would be a benefit. I like the idea of da/sa for bedside applications, so ill probably steer clear of the SA only. Thanks to all for posting input. Much appreciated.

I prefer the feel and balance of a 75 frame. The SP01s are nice, but I've already sold one of mine and I'm thinking about selling my SP01 Shadow to get another 75 SA. That's something you just need to feel for yourself though. See if you can get your hands on both and see which you like better since it sounds like you don't really need the rail.

Also as Blitz stated, don't factor in mag capacity in this purchase. Yes, the SP01 will come with higher capacity mags, but it's not like a standard 75 can't take them too.

Keep in mind a P01 has an aluminum alloy frame, so despite having that rail it doesn't add a significant amount of weight.

ETA: As msmedley pointed out, the Shadow is steel framed. The Phantom has the polymer frame.

I hadn't even noticed that, I think I stopped reading the line when I got to the part about the P01.

Shadows are steel framed. To the original poster if you are going to shoot a sp-01 in IDPA from what i have heard they are they are too heavy stock. People have used them but they have to change parts and use 10 round mags to get the weight down.

My mistake.  I'm always getting the Phantom and Shadow mixed up.  I should remember that the Shadow is the Souped Up SP01, and the Phantom is the Plastic one.  And, I also forget about the P01's aluminum frame.

SP-01 has a heavier barrel as well.

This is true.  Making weight in IDPA is very difficult with a SP-01.  IIRC, AlumaGrips and 10-rd mags still don't quite get you there.

Something to consider.
