I fired my new to me SP101 .357 mag 2 1/4" today for the first time. I bought it cheap off Gunbroker and the person I purchased it from said it had not been fired. It sure looked like it had not been. I picked up a set of wood Hogue's for a song and slapped them on. So today I finally get her out and ran some rounds through the little revolver.
I shot WWB 38 special rounds through the revolver at an empty 16 oz water bottle set out at 90 yards. Believe it or not, we could hit that bottle 3 out of 5 rounds every time. The recoil using the Hogue's was very very manageable and not unpleasant at all. This pistol is awesome. I have had a couple of SP101's in the past and always regret selling them. This one is a keeper. So there is my small range report and professed love of the SP101. |

love mine, but I have it set up with full size hogue grips for my wife, can't carry it with those grippy grips tugging at my shirt.
wouldn't mind another one with smaller smooth wood grips just to carry. yeah its a large package for 5 rounds, but what a great firearm. |

How is the trigger? I had one and it never seemed to break in, always with a bad stack at the end of the pull. Seems like Rugers vary on that. Trigger on mine is great. I have no way of measuring poundage, but in single action it seems to be less than my BHP which is in the 4 to 5 pound neighborhood. In double, it is heavy but smooth. I know this is not scientific, but the trigger is very crisp and clean with no dragging to speak of. I have had a couple of SP's in the past, and this one has the best trigger of them all. |

There is a write up on one of the Ruger forums that shows how to smooth the trigger on an SP101. I have worked on mine for a couple years and it is much better. There is a spring kit that is good too. |
