a local pawn shop that i frequent has a nice carry sized gun, don't know much about it, but the research i did tonight said good things.

Its a Ultrastar (m205 i'm pretty sure) 9mm. Anyone ever shoot one? looking for a carry gun i can be a little rough with. Double action and external hammer...looks about an 8/10 condition, but could be fixed up. Apparently certain branches of the spanish government use STAR guns? any input will be good.

The standard response is that you and or your wallet are going to be hard-pressed for spare parts, magazines, and smith options.

I have owned a Star Firestar plus (similar gun) that I have been very happy with for over 8 years. They are a heavier gun due to the steel frame. Mine shoots well and is accurate and has never failed me in any way. I think I have around 6-800 rounds through it. Like pulp said, parts aren't easy to come by, but I have had no problem finding spare mags for a reasonable price for mine. Good luck.

I have had a firestar in 40 cal. starvel(looks likeSS)for ' jezz ' 15 to 20 years now.I've never had a problem with it. I have moved on to other guns in the years(glocks,1911's etc.etc.) but I have never thought about selling that gun. kind of unique in its own way. for some reason I still  use it as my truck gun(I guess because it would hurt less to have  it stolen than a expensive 1911) because I trust it!

i have owned 2.

a compact 9mm and a compat 45. i forget the models.

both were 100% reliable and accuracy was on par or better than most out of the box pistols i have owned.

they are VERY well made and solid guns. parts and magazines are almost non-existant.

Stars are great guns.

I had the option of picking up a BM (kind of a mini 9mm 1911) several monthes back in excellent shape with OB and paperwork for $200. I passed at the time and have been kicking myself ever since.

I've had my Ultastar 9mm for at least 10 years. It has never given me any problems. The trigger pull is a little rough, and mags are a little on the expensive side. It is about the same size as a Glock 19 and many of my holsters for the 19 fit it fine. The only downside is the Glock of the same size and and weight holds 15 rounds while the Star holds 9. Mine cost $200 when it was brand new, making it a perfect truck gun as stated above, it gets stolen - no great loss. I would say get it if you get a good price.

I think the Star BM and the Walther P1 are two of the best surplus firearm bargains going.

I paid (I think) $129.00 or so for my surplus Star thru a dealer friend, and I only paid (again, I "think") $199.00 for the pristine Walther P1 from SOG.

Both pistols have been reliable and accurate and fun plinkers.  I think either could do double duty as plinkers and personal defense in a pinch.

Neat pistols..

Best Wishes,

Good pistols. Parts and mags are kinda hard to come by.

If you go to the "other" pistol forum there is a tacked thread with some Star info in it.

I have a Star M45 and it's a good gun.  No problems with it and shoots good.  Found extra mags for it at CDNN but that's been quite a while ago.  Since I got my 1911, I don't shoot it much any more.
