So I have a 2011 with a Recoil Master. I'll be the first to admit that it's a pain in the ass to take down, but it's really the best solution for my pistol. My pistol came with a little green clip that goes over the end of the guide rod to hold tension on it so you can take down the gun. I had it sitting on the table next to the TV, where I was last working on my pistol, but it's disappeared. I have no doubt that it's in little pieces in my backyard, surrounded by dog poop. My dogs are notorious for jumping up on the tables, and raiding the candy dish. To them, it probably looked like candy, plus it was really chewy.

I called up STI, got connected to their service guy, who chuckled when I explained what happened. He asked "How about you just give me your address, and I mail you a two or three tomorrow?" He refused to take my credit card information.

That was Thursday. I'll probably have it on my desk at work Tuesday when I get back.

My view on the recoil master why over complicate the recoil system of the 1911?

It came on the gun. I don't know what else I could replace it with.

is it a 5"  with a bull barrel any std reverse plug and full length guide rod will work.  Paper clip take down method.

IIRC the recoil master takes a shorter recoil spring, going to the above method any govt length recoil spring will work.

I'm against recoil masters because I've broken 3 of them.  STI has replaced each one without a problem, but I switched to FLGRs, haven't broken one of those, yet.

I agree with the customer service aspect, STI is top notch. I am working on getting my second pistol from them.
