So what's the arfcom census on STI?

I'm looking to build(kinda) a 1911, and saw an STI match set in a brownells catalog. It included the frame, slide and barrel with comp. They are already "matched" for "zero tolerance" for $1200.

Also, how much of a difference does using a barrel that doesn't need a bushing have over a barrel that does?

GTG.

I'm a "purist", but if I were to go for a "modern" looking or hi-cap 1911, SVI/STI would be my ONLY choice.

Only one less part to fit and one less part to break.  In THEORY a bushing-less barrel should be more accurate, for 99.9% of the shooters out there you will only see this in a ransom rest.

I have no problems with STI gear.

You're probably looking at the doublestack racegun short block kit.

I wouldn't recommend that for a first-time builder, and the kit itself isn't the best choice unless you want to build up a USPSA Open division gun.

If you're intent on an STI, you can buy a completed single stack for the same money or less.

Ya that's kind of what I was looking for. Something to produce the best accuracy.

It wont serve any other purpose but to build my ego at the range
