Generally speaking?

The local gun shop that I do transfers with sells these two along with a couple higher end ones.

I like the idea of springfield, but want to support my local shop.

STI by just a bit, IMO.

I own both brands, a P-226 & a STI 2011 9mm Edge. Stating the obvious, you can't go wrong either way.

I'd get an STI or an SA over a Sig.

I like SACS guns, I think they're some of the best made semi-customs.

My only problems with the sti is that their mags suck (the 2011 mags) bad when they're not perfect, and the blued guns will look like they're 10 years old after a couple months of use. I'd still take my marauder over any sig though.

I guess he is thinking the single stack STI.  The other one needs 80.00 mags that still need tuningj

Which STI?

I purchased a SIG but in hindsight, I wish I would have purchased an STI Trojan.

STI has a really wide range of models and I've heard good things about their quality.

I just wish their single stacks were a little more traditional looking.

Id buy a 9mm Duty One if it had standard type texturing.

SIG 1911s are accurate, very reliable right out of the box, and inexpensive for what you get.

Both are great but I'd lean towards STI.

$60 mags and I never tuned shit.

I would say STI simply on the basis of barrel fit alone.  They don't just slap in a link and let the barrel ride on it like SIG and everybody else does.  I'd say that generally, STI's barrel fit is about the best to be had under $1200.

The slide stops may sometimes need tuning (or replacement) to ensure consistent lockback on an empty mag.  I went through about 4 different 9mm STIs that wouldn't push the slide stop up consistently on empty.  But that's a minor gripe.

STI no question about it, and their double stack 2011 guns are very nice. I really don't like Sig 1911's very much. Springfield is also a good choice for a more traditional 1911, I like the TRP model a lot. I also really like the Dan Wesson 1911's, I'm currently carrying a Valor, fantastic gun, a little better than Springfield TRP.

+1
None of my 40 mags have been tuned, now I have swapped springs followers and basepads for additional magazine capacity. No tweaking or polishing to the magazine bodies.

I would take STI over Sig as well

STI for sure. Very accurate and well made pistols.

I've had no issues with my STI magazines.

I asked the same question between Sig and STI. I had my eyes set on the STI Guardian in 45ACP. I happened to find a gun store to hold the STI Guardian and what ended happening is the same store had a Sig Compact Nickel 1911. Sig's website does not depict the nickel color very well and I was drawn to the gun, I really liked the look of the Sig Nickel.

Here are my thoughts as I was looking for a carry handgun:

STI Guardian
  • (Pro's) lighter weight (~28oz), slide and frame were fit very snug and great looking gun.

  • (Con's) looking at $1,000 price tag, no night sights, replacement Recoil Master parts at $100, non-standard parts, one magazine included with purchase

Sig 1911 Compact Nickel
  • (Pro's) $900 price tag, two magazines with purchase, night sights included, low cost and readily available replacement parts, sharp looking gun

  • (Con's) Sigs slide is unique and standard holster may not be ideal, the compact nickel model is heavier ~38oz (Sig C3 is lighter at ~28oz)

After my review of 5" barrel vs. 4.25" barrel, heavy weight vs, lighter weight gun, and cost of replacement parts I decided to go with the Sig 1911 Compact Nickel.

Yes sorry.  A basic commander sized 1911. My fist 1911.

I have a STI Ranger II and it's absolutely reliable and very accurate. It was picky about what HPs world feed reliably. I found a video on Wilson's site that showed how to properly tune the extractor. Once I tuned it per the Wilson instructions it takes any HP that I've fed it.

I have a 9mm STI  Trojan and I use Tripp cobra mags. Tripp is one of the founders of STI. I live 15 minutes from STI and an hour from Tripp. My Trojan was blue and I had Tripp hard chrome it. Looks like new for ever. It runs like a fine watch.

I have an STI slide stop in my Colt that replaced the OE one that wouldn't lock back on anything but GI type followers. It would completely miss the Tripp and Wilson followers. It was an absolute bear to install because the lug was way oversized and needed a lot of material taken off so it wouldn't hit bullets. To top it it's MIM and the finish on the back side is pretty rough. I ended up polishing the entire back side of the slide stop. On the positive side once it was fitted I haven't had any issues and it's seen some use.

In hindsight I should have just returned it from Brownells and ordered a 10-8 or EGW but I was a few years dumber when I bought it.
