Hello, I have returned to the board for the first time in a few years and was lurking around and have'nt seen much talk of Smith's 1911. I bought one Sat and pick it up tomorrow. My question being, why no talk of them?? I found the one I looked at to be excellent fit and finish, and it comes with some wilson parts already on it... anyone have anymore info on these/range reports?? I appreciate any help.

I realize that, but was'nt that when they were owned by *wince* the UK? As I knew it now they had stopped taking that stance. I own a SW mod19-2 and have had nothing but great comments to say about it....

CLP, I just purchased one 2 weeks ago and I love it.  Already ordered more Wilson mags for it.  I have had 2 1911's in the past.  One a Springfield GI, and an 70's model AMT.

I had a little money to spend, so I spent several months looking at all the 1911 models available, and asking questions here.  After several hours pouring over the Springfields, Kimbers, and the S&W, I decided to go that route.  It just looked and felt better to me.  Excellent fit and finish.

About the government issue, that was due to the un-American ownership of the company at that time.  I didn't like it, and I swore several years ago I would never own another.  But after reading current info about the company and their US ownership now, I decided to give them a chance.  I hope others will, and Smith will come out in support of the 2nd AM.

I've had my SW1911 for almost a year now and love it.  Its been far more accurate and reliable than that POS Kimber I bought first.  I think your're gonna really enjoy your new SW1911.

Other than a recall on some earlier specimens, everything has been positive lately.
With nearly everybody making 1911s nowadays, they had better be good to stand up to the competition, which is considerable.
Maybe it's a case of what you don't hear being a good thing, anything wrong with them they would get torn to shreds on the internet, I would guess.

I cannot find fault with mine. I have owned it since they became "legal" to buy in Mass and have shot it alot. Very accurate and no failures. My .02

I'm still stunned by the internal finish.  No machining marks like the rest of my 1911's, even the high priced ones.  No one seems to be able to tell me how they accomplish that at it's price.
