My wife and I are working around a small snag with daily carry for her, possibly for me too if I start a job where she is. Her job has her park on federal property where she can't have a firearm in her car, but once off location which she is very often for the workday it would be good for her to have it with her. So a simple workaround appears to be to have a place to drop off and pick up. I'm thinking a bank safe deposit box would be ideal for this, simply having her sidearm in a discreet looking case about the size of a phone book, maybe leather so it looks more like a ledger, which wouldn't attract any attention bringing it in and out. Simply unholster, unload, and put back in the box and drop off at the bank which is a block away when going back onto federal property, then pick up and do the opposite when back out. It would add maybe 5 minutes to the daily routine.

Anyone here have this kind of arrangement? I've read here and elsewhere about having NFA items like silencers in safe deposit boxes for storage when out of state. What does it cost to have a safe deposit box for such use?

You would have to check with the individual bank, many banks prohibit firearms in SDBs and definitely would likely prohibit firearm with ammo in the box.  Having a gun inside to vault I can see their point.

I know you can CCW in banks in most states but I dont blame them for not wanting them in SDBs.  Check with you bank. or get the paperwork for one and read it carefully.

Its going to take way more than five minutes.  At least as at my bank.  And if you're doing more than once a day, I would think if would quickly turn into a hassle.  Not to mention the time she "forgets" to put it back.

Major pain in the ass. Normally, you have to wait in line and have a security guard watch you open it (to make sure you don't open some one elses). They have to check your ID, etc. RE: parking on federal land. I used to work for a federal agency, I was told that if we parked in the public parking area in front we could have anything in our car, but if we went through the gate into the secure agent parking area then we couldn't have booze or anything else prohibited. It sucks that you have to put the public in MORE danger by leaving your gun in a less secure area.

Find out if I'm right, buy a set of leg irons "leg shackles" and cuff the gun to the frame of the seat.

Exactly. Using a SDB is not a quick thing. Plus it'll look very odd for you to be accessing your SDB multiple times per day. Unfortunately I don't think this will work for you.

No friends/family who live near by? I can't think of any commercial service available that would allow storage of a gun except a storage facility, though a handgun in a garage-sized space is kind of a waste IMO.

Now that you mention it. Some facilities rent a closet size space for document/record storage.

Another option; go into the restroom at a VERY nearby gas station or restaurant, stick the gun in a zip lock bag in the toilet tank. Make sure not to leave prints, or use a gun registered to you.
I was joking and this would be very dangerious and stupid.

Where does the regulation on the federal property she is parking on originate?

Is it a company policy, properly posted, secure facility??

Buy a lockbox for the car. End of story.
