| I am a semi-auto guy and recently purchased my first revolver. It is a used, stainless 4" model 65-3 in .357 mag. I don't know much about revolvers. Can anyone tell me anything about these guns? Thanks. |

The Mdl 65 is a K (intermediate) frames S&W, designed originally for the .38 S&W and later .38 Special cartridges. The thinking and practice of the day was to practice with .38 special ammo and carry the more powerful .357 magnum ammo on the street. However changing times and liability issues caused most departments to start qualifying with "street" ammo. Continuous use of full power .357 mag ammo will beat the hell out of the K frame in relatively short order. Our Mdl 66's developed cylinder end shake, warped cylinder cranes and a couple of buckled top straps when we started qualifying with a steady diet of Federal 125gr SJHP .357 mag ammo. It will last forever fed a diet of .38 special. |
