Hello gang,
I want to replace the front sight plastic red insert in my S&W 686 no dash 4"... or at least restore a bright red color. Where I can find a replacement? Is there any way to restore its shine? Any help will be appreciated. Regards, TD |

You can punch the original insert out, rough up the base of where the new front sight insert will be, place the revolver in a vice, spray release agent on two brass shims, take a pair of channel locks and clamp the shims in place on either side of the front sight. next mix up a small batch of 2 part casting epoxy, add yellow and red dye till you get the desired orange color, add the expoxy a couple of drops a the time untill the void is filled, then let set. 24 hours later dress the epoxy down with a file.
I did that to a model 15 (no dash) and it worked perfectly. Mind you since you already have the orange insert from the factory, you don't have to mic it out and file the void, then open the sides up with a dovetail file. But that ought to fix you right up! Regards, LLCranford3 |
