Two questions:

First, what is it worth in "good" condition?

Second, is there a difference in .38 S&W as marked on the barrel and .38SPL?

Two different calibers, not at all interchangeble.  38 S&W is the older shorter round, it can still be found but takes some effort.  And no, you can't simply reem out 38 S&W chambers to make it a 38 Special.  The shorter round tapers slightly and is wider at the base than the special.  Value is hard to say.  It may have some interest to a Smith collector but as a shooter most will pass it by due to the odd caliber.

That's what I thought as well.  I'm not a revolver guru so I just need some affirmation.  Thanks for the help.
