Specifically I was wondering if the lock mechanism hole could be welded up on a S&W with a scandium frame. Not too worried if that one little spot isn't scandium, it could be regular aluminum. Just wondering if it would work.

Scandium is a tiny fraction of the alloy.
It should work fine.
