I have had a Super 14 in 7-30 Waters since '95.  Low round count, <100.

After a long rest I had it at the range and noticed that the mount was no longer secure, with a slight bit of movement between it and the barrel.  After taking the scope then mount off I noticed some redish bedding.  It is brittle and comes off when scratched with my fingernail.

It looks like the mount was bedded when installed.  My question is - what was used?  Are bedding materials typically used when installing scope mounts?

I want to get things back together but am a little ignorant in this area.

Thanks for your time.

That was a sloppy installation using red locktite. Clean it all off and degrease the holes and use the red loctite again. Make sure you get the scope mounted tight as I can tell you that it hurts when a scope come off a gun under recoil.
