I've got a SS Security Six made in 1984 that I'm thinking about rebuilding. The gun isnt in bad shape just 16 years of wear on it. I need to replace the ejector rod on it. Looks like someone has taken a pair of vise grips to it...

This handgun is a 38 special, should I go ahead and get another cylinder to convert it to a 357 or would it be better value wise to keep it as a 38? This is the only one that I've seen and I would hate to change something that hasnt been produced that much.

You'd be out less money all together if you fixed the ejector rod and bought a .357 gun, and you'd have another gun.  Getting all the work to fit the new cylinder properly will cost more than just buying another gun.  Yeah, they are user field-strippable, but there's all sorts of work involved with a new cylinder.

I honestly haven't seen any price difference in the .38 and .357.  If anything the .357's tend to sell faster, but they don't seem to sell for more.

You've talked me into it. Another gun it is!

Now the question is should I get a  blue since the 38 is stainless...;)
