Hey guys i just bought my first H&K its a USP 9mm full size great condition and came with 3 mags and got it for a good price. When we where fillin out the paper work they noticed it had a super low serial number.. Does anyone know how H&K does their numbers. it was like 24-*** so it only had 5 numbers so it they said that was like one of the originals more less. Im just wonderin thanks!! Justin |

FYI...the date code is located on the pistol near the serial number and below is the key for decyphering the letters (i.e. - and IE date date would have a manufacturing date of 1984): A B C D E F G H I K 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 The "24" is the serial number prefix which, as a 24, means that all HK USP 9 Full-size and USP Expert 9 pistol serial numbers will begin with that number, then -xxxxx. As DNC1982 asked, it is the date code that is important. That will give you the mfg date and you can judge the serial number from there. I am not sure what year was the first production year for the USPF 9, but I think it may have been 1993 or 1994 (but again, a resident expert here or over on HKPRO may be able to give you more detail). KD would be a '93 pistol. Pretty interesting From the HKPro.com website "As production began in 1993, several improvements were made to the USP series as necessary. In September, 1994, the recoil spring was made as part of a captive assembly, rather than loose at one end. In November, 1994 the barrel was changed from conventional land and groove to polygonal bore profile. Improved trigger pull introduced in the latter half of 1995. Reduces stacking and pull weight in the DA mode, improved smoothness in DA and SA modes." ** Never seen a USP without the captive recoil assembly :) Oh, and if you're new to owning HKs, get familiar with the HKPro website and especially forums.
