I have 2 G17s and 1 XD9, along with an XD 45 and G21. ETA: I also have a USP 45c and thought about getting a fullsize USP 45 to accompany but $$.
My thoughts are to kind of hang with 9mm for the commonality right now... I'm trying to decide if I want to pick up a G19 to go with the 17s or get another XD9 so that I have 2 G17s and 2 XD9s... or since I have 3 9mm pistols, do I get another G21 to help build a 45 base with a more rounded Glock setup? I could get an XD45 for a pair of those... I also want to get a G30 to go with the 21 but I'm struggling there. Struggling here, I want them all but can't at once you know.... |

Hmmm, can't help you.
I have 1 G17 and don't plan on getting another. 1911's, that's another story. I have 2, I'm trying to save up to get another, and I'm hoping I don't stumble upon another one at a good deal anytime soon
I'd say consolidate on whatever you shoot the most. |

Well, in my opinion, maybe you should get identical pistols.
Buy whatever platform you choose in .45 for target, carry, HD, whatever and get a 9mm version of it so you can afford to shoot cheaper and the manual of arms will be the same. Personally, I don't really have a method to the madness for my pistol choices. I buy what I want. If I like the platform, I buy more
Good luck |

I tend to also buy buy whatever looks good to me at the moment, but figured I'd try to get a small amount of common items... and the G19 does make the most sense and I have a lot of 17 mags along with a few 18... |

Then get a G19 to go with the 17s. It could use ALL the G17 mags you have, and share holsters as well. And the G19 makes a great backup gun to the G17. This. I pretty much went with the .40S&W for most of my pistols, but recently picked up a CZ75 cause the price was right, and 9 mm is a little cheaper right now. |

hrm...i have a g17, a g19 and an xd45 service, so i'l voice my thoughts. my situation is simpler, because my glocks are all 9mm and all my 9mms are glocks, and i only have a single 45. First off, i think both glocks and xds are great.
if you prefer glocks, i'd say go and get a g19 (ar15.com favorite) if you want to stick with the 9mm, or g30 if you want 45. they should all use mags you already have. a benefit of the g19 is that you can get lower priced kci/khan mags online for about 10$ a piece. if you prefer xds, would the xd9 subcompact work for your needs, or is the grip too short for you? also, would an xd45 compact work? personally, I would've gotten a xd45 compact over a g19 if academy carried them at a low price like the g19 ($529 before tax). |

I guess this is becoming more of an issue as ammo prices are going up. Personally, I started with 9mm and 45ACP and later incorporated 223, 308win, 40S&W, 50AE.
It is cheaper to stay with one caliber and when you start buying ammunition in bulk, the cost will be significantly higher as well since you need 9mm but you can always use more of other calibers (this is personal problem :) ) If you feel that you are restricted in funds, you should stick to one caliber.....Or you can get a second job like me and be miserable as my second job supplements what I spend on my expensive hobbies only. |

well, 4 9mm.... 2 G17, 1 G19 (ordered) and 1 XD9 Service, think my next one will be a XD9 subc and then I want a G30 to go with my 21 and I think I'm good for pistols for now. Maybe another HIK one day... if/when I get a 1911 style, it's going to be small, like an Ultra Carry II |

Another +1 and I'll go even further and say: from a commonality view point, I would recommend you dump your XD's and stick with the Glocks (or if you prefer, dump the Glocks and stick with the XD's). I'm a strong believing in picking a platform and sticking with it. The money you get from selling the XD's will pay for your G19 and then lots of mags and ammo. |

The 21 is bigger and the 30 is smaller. my xd45 is one of my favorite guns simply for it's size and comfort. I thought about selling the xd9 and just getting another xd45 and then sticking to the glocks on the 9mm. but i am a fan of the xd's so I'll probably keep one or two around. maybe 2 xd45s and 2 xd9s, then everything else glock. i have 6 glocks right now, including the 19 that's on the way, 3 are 9mm. I may get another 19 soon so I'll have 2 19's and 2 17s, then the rest is just fun to play with. I also have a little KelTec Sub2000 that uses the 17 mags so that adds to the 9mm stockpiling.... |
