Is anyone using XS big dots on there Shield? If you do let me know how you like them please?

Great up close and on the move but not so great at 25 yards and out. I can do dot drills at 7 yards all day with them, but the further out you move, the worse it gets. At distance the dot can cover up too much of the target and that rear sight doesn't exactly give much "alignment". I know that you can hit targets at 100 yards with them (seen a video of James Yeager doing it), but precise shots and HRT shots are troublesome past 10 yards. If XS made a notched rear sight instead of a wedge, they would be REAL nice. |
| They are awesome. You just have to realize they are combat sites for closer ranges. I train with mine out to 25 yards and they work. Dot the I and you are good to go. You only need the night sight on the front. The concept is that you place your front site on the target and shoot. In a defensive situation you will not have time to effectively aim with your rear site. |
| Not on a shield but I have them on a compact and I really like them. That big golf ball of a dot is easy to acquire while lining up the pistol. And they are easy to install as well. Anyone with a bench vise and a little know how should be able to install them in short time. |

| I'm still on the fence as to which replacement sights I want to add to my new Shield, but these are definitely on the short list of contenders. For a dedicated personal defense gun like the Shield they seem more than adequate. My only hesitation is all of the reports that say they can be counter productive out at around 25 yards or further. I don't plan to shoot my Shield beyond that but for some reason, the LE agency I work for requires us to run our standard qualification course with any backup/off duty guns we intend to carry and that course includes quite a bit of firing from 25 yards. I don't want to be struggling to land my shots when I am out at the 25 yard line. |

I have them on mine. I screwed up the rear sight and will be replacing it eventually. The locktite is holding it for now, but I filed off way too much metal. The online tutorials say to file it until you can push it halfway with your fingers. Well, by the time I got to that point, it was too much.
Luckily, I started with the rear sight as that's much less expensive to replace than the front. I like them very much. |

However, it's hard to find them in stock. I spent over 2 hours with google search one day going to every website and finding out they didn't have stock. Some just emulate the stock of other major distributors. I even ordered from a few of them only to learn that the stock they showed was incorrect. I said to my self "screw this crap, I'm going with my second choice...the XS Big Dot" |

I've always heard them advertised as being easy to pick up for quick sight acquisition. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm not worried about what seal team 6 is using or what flavor of the month it is for the competition world. I care what works for me.

The fact that MIL / LE and competition people aren't using them might be a good indicator of their utility or lack there of. |
