I own a Diamondback DB9, and Glock 43, and a Shield 9mm.  The shield is by far my favorite and gets used the most.  I never should have sold my Walther PPS but that is not really the point.  My shield 7 Round magazine will not hold more than 6 rounds.  I am 6'4" 283 lbs, I don't use any mag loading devices, I don't have issues loading mags to their intended capacities.  I know many mags, especially NY legal 10 round mags in fulll size pistols are hard to load.  This magazine will not take the 7th bullet.  It is also a pain in the ass to seat the mag properly even slamming it in when the slide is closed.  Is this a common problem, or did I get a bad mag?

Second issue, is the spring on the guide rod supposed to look messy/wonky like it does?  It almost looks defective but I have over 1,900 rounds through it and it's run 100%.

Third, the bottom of the feed ramp on my barrel has a minor chip.  Kind of triangular in shape, and certainly doesn't impact performance, but it is there.  Should I be concerned about the barrel cracking or anything or just let it go?

All of that aside, I consider myself a 1911 and a Glock guy but I love this little gun.  It shoots significantly better than my G43......I hate to say.

When my mags were new I had a hard time loading 6 in the 7 round mag. I started using a mag loader and now it is much easier to load to capacity by hand. I guess they broke in a bit.

All the shield mags are like this and you need a mag loader to load the last round.  Yes I am a big guy too but the springs need to be broken in, left loaded or/and shot repeatedly to be able to hand load them.  Out of the 10 mags I have, I do not have any issues with putting in the last round without using the mag loader.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Ill try a mag loader and see how it goes.

I bought the Shield and 4 extra mags with it.  All were very difficult to load at first.
I resorted to pushing the follower down with a wooden ruler then inserting a small pocket screw driver into the bottom hole to hold the follower back.
From there I could just drop in all but the last round.
I did this on my first two trips to the range to break in the gun.  After the spring loosened up I can now easily load the full mag by hand.

I recently bought another mag and had to follow the same procedure.  Also keep the mag loaded.

I love the gun.  2000 rds and no issues other than the mag break in period.
