What is happening when the bottom half of the trigger moves?  Is it doing anything internally?

The reason I ask is a Shield  I bought has had the trigger glued together.

Thanks

Thank you.  I did not find an answer but will search later.

The first half of the trigger doesn't move anything internally.  Its just a safety feature, similar to the "safe action trigger" on the glocks.  A lot of people don't like the "hinge trigger" on the m&p so they glue it down.  Its a little crazy to remove a safety feature on a firearm.  I would recommend replacing the trigger bar

I agree with you about disabling safeties.

I will look into a new trigger.

Thanks everyone, for the feedback.

I just bought an unfired 9mm Shield this past weekend, from a Private sale, and my trigger doesn't hinge at all. It doesn't appear to be glued but the trigger acts as a single solid unit.... I thought it was strange too. I'm not that familiar with these M&P series guns at all, and wasn't sure if it was just stuck or something. I'm not sure whether to send it back to S&W or a local gun shop to see if it they can "un-stick" it. Has anyone else run across this?

The hinged part of the stock trigger should move freely.  Try spraying it out with some type of cleaner and see if it frees up.

I just posted a safety alert from Smith & Wesson relating to the trigger. It sounds like your pistol may be one of those affected. I would suggest contacting S&W directly using the info in the link
