I HAD THE WORST EXPERIENCE AT FED EX!!!!! Last week at the shooting range fired off 36 rounds and my Spring Field XD 45ACP Compact and it was fine after my forth magazine was loaded it miss fed and jammed and I thought nothing of it and cleared it. Then the next magazine went in it jammed again twice. Now I’m concerned, this is my night stand gun and I need it be reliable. I stuck new magazine in and that jammed too. It started to get worst and worst to the point that it some how bent the bullet and made it not come out. After a few minutes and some help the bullet finally came out. So now I decide to send my pistol back to Spring Field Armory and what a headache. I called in and got the RMA they told me that it can only be sent express next day delivery thought either the UPS or FED EX hub so I got it all boxed up and ready to ship Unloaded of course. So I waited to Monday to ship my XD back to Spring Field Armory from the station manager and the employee, who won’t give me her name but her employee number is 108963. They keep giving me an attitude and told me that I can not send my pistol back to Spring Field Armory at all. I had to be some one with an FFL to send it back to the manufacturer. Then I told her that I am going to the manufacture to clarify this. She then rudely yelled at me to get off away from her counter and because I am using my cell phone. Now I am irritated and told ok I’ll move to the side (there was no other customer there). She then she yelled at me again saying “You can not send guns through FED EX!!! It has to be dealer to dealer!!!” I told her that Spring Field Armory told me to that I can send it through FED EX back to the manufacture. After calling up Spring Field Armory and they would not talk to the representative nor would she give me her name. Then Spring Field Armory conference called FED EX Corporate, they ask whom I was talking to, and again with even then that employee would not give me her name. Then FED EX Corporate made a few calls and then they reached the same station manager Sheila Hartsfield and she told me the same thing with out looking up any thing. Then she decides to pick up and call some one and checked the delivery location for Spring Field Armory to and verified it even though she did not seem at all happy but told me that I can ship my gun back to the manufacture. I am very shocked at how unprofessional and rude they are. They don’t need my business from now on. |
| I had a similar experience with UPS. I needed to send my Kimber back for some work. I took it to UPS and the lady there refused to ship it, and refused to hear me out when I told her it was for repair and that an FFL was not needed. So......I went across the street to Fedex, and they were more than happy to ship it. It's really weird, sounds like some employees need to read their training manuals a little closer. |

Why are you telling FedEx or UPS what's in the box in the first place? It's none of their business and if they did ask you, your response is "typewriter parts." I have never had a UPS or FedEx person ask me "what's in the box," so should we assume that you volunteered it and created your own headache? |
|
That happened once to me. Now I carry a printed copy of this...straight from their website under Terms and Conditions. If they try to give me lip, I ask to speak to the station manager, hand this to them and ask if there's anything else about their business they'd like me to explain while I'm there. Firearms 1. It doesn't matter if I tell them or not. They need to know their own policies instead of making up things along the way. If the manager took a second the first time look it up their own policies I wouldn't have had to get so annoyed. The facility I went to was FedEx Express Ship Center 4400 International Pky Atlanta, GA 30354 |

Every time i have gone to ship somthing, they ask what is in the box. I did not volunteer the info. If i were asked what was in the box and then lied about the contents to ship it at a lower rate, there might be some consequences once they realized it was being shipped to a firearm manufacturer and decided to inspect the package. Not real sure if there are any consequences, but dont want to chance it when shipping somthing that is worth half a grand or more. Thats just my .02 And as I stated earlier the DO need to do a better job of studying their own polices. |

I have shipped everthing from guns, motorcycle parts, computer parts and other random crap and have NEVER had anyone ask what's in there...EVER. I know, I now jinxed myself. If they destroyed your gun shipment for some reason, then you didn't package it well enough...if you told them it was typewriter parts and it wasn't "oops I thought that was the box with the typewriter parts in it." gig, I think you probably were spouting off about guns in a place that you shouldn't...kinda like going to the democratic national convention and talking about guns, certain people will freak out. If you want us/me to feel sorry for you because you caused your own bad experience, then you have to look elsewhere, because you're not going to get sympathy from everyone. If you constantly get asked "what are you shipping" by the same shipper, maybe it's time to change shippers? Seriously, if it's a hassle then use one of their competitors. Oh, and maybe not looking like the unabomber when you go to ship something might help too. |
Dude I hope you didn't just jinxed your self but I'm not looking for sympathy from any one that would be really retarded especially from strangers. Now if I was talking about how I live with my girlfriend and her sister sharing one bathroom, then it would be different. The only reason they know was because aware that it was a weapon in the first place was because I had a brain fart and asked them if a weapon was considered a hazardous goods. This is purely FYI because I know I am not the only one that went through this. |
I just had this same thing happen to me at a UPS store. I Fucked up and stated I was shipping a rifle and wanted it insured for $600. The two guys squirted in there paints. They got huffy and told me I COULD NOT send a firearm myself. It had to be a FFL holder to another FFL holder. I told them they was wrong. It looked like they just walked in on me and there mother after a nice Boston steamer incident![]() . They told me it was illegal for me to send it. I then told them I guess it's cool that UPS just drops the damn firearm back off at my door and 50% of the time don't even get a signature when its required . Once again the look of they just walked in on me with there younger sister with that " Got MILK " look on her face. It was really funny if it wasn't sad. Yes I screwed up. The last town I lived in the UPS store knew there own rules and knew what I was shipping and was always cool. Move to a new place and it changes. I simply went to the next town and shipped UPS ( Machined Parts " ) And kept my damn mouth shut. WarDawg

Not only is it UPS and FEDEX policy to declare the shipment of a firearm, IT IS FEDERAL LAW AS WELL. ar15.com/content/page.html?id=474 |
|
Well look where it got them supposedly following "THE LAW" Nothing gets shipped. So maybe, just maybe, if UPS and FedEx knew THE LAW then none of us would have problems with them. I nominate you to go to every UPS and FedEx employee and personally inform them of THE LAW. You know it's illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket in Georgia, but only on Sundays. |
You do understand that this is a Technical Forum and not General Discussion don't you? Posting of incorrect information will get called here. Attempting to start pissing contests will get your account locked. |
| As a former Fedex courier I never asked what was in the box for domestic packages. For international I needed to know but not domestic. My favorite part is when I get a working pistol back from a company after being repaired and they dont mark the package "signature required" and I come home to find the box leaning against my front door as 8 small kids play in our cul de sac. Some companys send you a message telling you when to expect it before it is shipped but not all. As for the employee not telling you her name.....that is fedex policy. I too was a number. Was she old.....she has a pretty senior number there. |

FedEx just sucks period. I have never had a good experience with them. Last shipment I had stated item was on the truck. I waited all day(if you aren't there...you wont get your stuff) and finally rechecked the website. It said delivery was canceled because of the weather. It was cold and sunny! I went to the warehouse and picked it up myself after calling customer service. In the end, they forgot to load the package on the truck. I have a guy down the street that delivers for fedex home. We rarely ever see the truck leave his house. |
Whatever part still has the serial number remains a firearm no matter how many parts you remove. |

If you guys are shipping at their counter by having their staff typing into their computer your shipment detail, then try this instead: go online and open or signup for FedEx or UPS account, you can pay and print your prepaid shipping label online. When you drop off any package @ their hub (if firearm) or any of their staffed location such as Kinko's (for FedEx) or UPS Store (if UPS and non-firearm), no one ask you what's inside 100% of the time. At Kinko's, they give you a receipt when you drop off after hours since they open 24hrs at most places. They just say 'thank you'. This is from places that usually give me problem before so I just go online to their website and log into my account and go from there. Just don't put mark or put on the label any gun-related words (prohibited by law anyway, if I am not mistaken) or any marking on box that it's a gun (preventing theft by the carrier's employee) |

Ship it through the postal service signiture confirmation+insured you'll save tons of money. That way its tracked. A local gun shop has shipped thousands of firearms through the post office without problem. Straight from the postal regulations: Exhibit 432.1 Mailability Requirements for Firearms Handguns may be mailed by a licensed manufacturer or dealer, an authorized federal agent, or an authorized state, territory, |

Jeez, I was all anxious lookin' forward to gettin' mine shipped off. I went thoroughly prepared for the worst lol but the lady at the counter was actually very helpful and saved me some cash with some creative box-work. Huge +1 to the FedEx hub in Tulsa, OK for customer service. |
+1 I do this, but have them come pick it up at the house. I also check a the box on the website (I forget what it is, something about other comments or something) and enter that it is a firearm being returned to the manufacturer. No problems so far. |
Exactly. $80 shipping for "free" gunsmithing isn't free. |
