I've never heard of Rock Island 1911s before, but I saw this one on a local store's website and was thinking of going out there to take a look. Is it worth it?
It's the first one on the page.

Any particular reason?

rock islands, while functional and mostly reliable, are about the bottom rung of quality.

You could find a better price elsewhere..

I'm generally just looking for a good first handgun and I love 1911s and 45s in general. I'm also on a tight budget.

try a search for "RIA" or "rock" under handguns, start w/ these topics:

FWIW: i paid $330 OTD for mine--had a few upgrades, and so far its been a sure shooter w/ ~100 rnds so far

its an ok truck, beater, range 1911, but i would have to agree w/ the other guys and say to opt for a little more quality 1911 for a first one--a SA mil-spec would be my next choice budget wise

I don't believe in beaters and truck guns.

I believe in you get what you pay for, but ALMOST everyone that buy one seems to like thier RIA.
