I have a decision to make that would be super easy for some but not for me. I have a kimber tactical custom II that i've had for about a year and it's been reliable and shoots really nice but it gets rust spots every so often and i'm getting tired of it. I stopped by a local shop and they had a colt xse in black with some nice double diamond grips that i fell in love with and i'm tempted to see if i can work out a trade. Pretty sure i can, but i'm worried that the colt won't be reliable and i'll be trading a reliable gun for one that isn't. Thoughts?

If you haven't bonded with the Kimber by now and love the Colt I'd make the change.  I have a Kimber thats reliable and accurate but if I came across a Series 70 in good condition or a SA Loaded it would traded in a heartbeat. Ask the owner if he'll stand behind it if the Colt doesn't work out as far as reliability.

depends on how much the trade will cost you i guess...imo, if the gun works, why get rid of it?

+1

Liberal application of gun oil during maintenance will reduce/eliminate your rusting issues (after you've properly removed all traces of rust)... I'll assume its the "in the white" steel barrel that's rusting.

The barrel, slide, both sights, and other things that aren't aluminum or plastic. I got tired of it and made the trade this morning. The colt may not have all the bells and whistles that the kimber had, but i can upgrade it as i go. As long as it's reliable and doesn't rust when it comes within 10 feet of moisture i'll be happy.
