Well this was my 3rd ranger trip with my new 220 Compact. To start off let me give you a little background have 12 older Sigs from 10 or more years ago both stamped slides and machined slides. All have been flawless. My favorite is a 1998 229 that has over 15,000 trouble free rounds through it. It has made it through classes at Blackwater and Valhalla Training Center that saw ever other pistol in the class jam at some point...Glocks, HK USP's, 1911's, XD, you name it it jammed! My Sig just kept going without a single malfunction.
With having such good luck with Sigs I was sold that they were the very best combat handgun on the planet(I still believe this regarding older Sigs). I recently bought 3 new Sigs, a 229ST, 239 and a 220 Compact. Well the 229ST quickly started to jam with all types of ammo. It went back to Sig and their "top dog gunsmith" went over the gun. When I got it back it still jammed like it did before. What pissed me off even more is I had to pay shipping costs. I ended up trading it to a guy who did some tile work for me in my old house.
Now the 239 was even worse. All kinds of malfunctions.....you name it it had them. I bought it for my wife to carry so it went back to Sig also. I might as well sent it to Handgun Control Inc because it came as bad or worse. We still own it but it sits in the safe as it is not fit to carry. My Wife now carries a Smith and Wesson J frame .38 I bought for her. I may send it back again if I can get Sig to pay shipping both ways.

Now onto my newest Sig the 220 Compact!!! WHAT ANOTHER POS!!!!!
I have 500 rounds through it now in 3 range trips and it has been jaming up through them all. Mostly the bullet gets hung up on the feed ramp or it makes it into the chamber properly but the slide stays open like this:

After dealing with 3 new lemons Sigs and piss poor attempts to make it right I'm ready to wright them off as a quality manufacturer. I'm not even going to mail my 220 Compact to them because I know Sig will not fix it right and I will get stuck paying shipping again. I'm so pissed that even if they fixed it right I still don't even want the f****** thing anymore....can't trust it to go bang when I may need it to.

I can tell you I'm so sad to see my favorite brand go down the shitter. I know that the down fall of Sig Sauer is because if that total Shit head CEO they hired off of Kimber. This is the same guy who destroyed Kimber and now he destroyed Sig. What ever his name is I HOPE HE BURNS IN HELL!!!!!!!

ALL of the Sigs I have had have been shit.  That includes an older 226.  I wish you luck.   I would not pay for shipping when they not been fixed in the past.

I was surprised to see comments on brian enos' forum from the gun game guys saying that Sigs had problems holding up to high round counts.

I took a class a couple of years ago with some guys who were really into Sigs, they seemed accurate and reliable.

And they are if you get a good one. I'm so mad because Sig knows dam well their quality is gone and they refuse to do anything about it. "lets charge twice as much as Glock and give the buyer a non functional pistol to boot"!

Lets see I paid $900 for the 229ST, $700 for the 239 and $830 for the 220 Compact. I did not get one gun the functions properly. Maybe I'm the idiot for continuing to buy Sig's after multipulproblems.......Sig is laughing at me.

Just throwing square one stuff out here.

Any chance you're limp wristing that 220?  Not calling you a sweet-boy or anything, it's just little .45s and all...

Also, you try running your old 229 with the new Sig's mags?

Juuuus checkin'!

What does the breech face look like? is it rough?

My suggestion would be to let someone else shoot it and see if the same thing happens.

I had a West German P220 fullsize that kept having malfs, hell I couldnt get through 50 rounds without at least one problem.  I replaced it with a new P220 and so far so good.  I figure I've got 1K or so through it with no issues.  I think Sig has been hit and miss for quite awhile.

What kind of ammo are you using in the 220?

To answer some questions:

No chance I'm limping it. God a good solid 2 handed grip that I was taught at top rated schools.

Ammo was WWB ball and hollow point. Blaser Brass ball, Speer Gold Dots, Remington UMC and Remington Green Box hollow points....all quality plinking ammo and some high quality denfence loads.

The 229 does not take the same mags. The mags I used in the 220 were NIB factory mags.

I had the same problem with a P220ST.  Manual says to fire 200 rounds to break the pistol in, but it's hard to fire 200 rounds when every round refuses to chamber.  Usually it's the extractor that's at fault.  Unfortunately, the P220ST used a less common extractor than the rest of P220 series and I wasn't about to waste ~$40 a pop to find one that did work.  Shipping the pistol to Sig would cost even more.  I dumped the lemon and picked up a P220 Elite which will eat anything.  Damn fine tack driver to boot.

I'd be betting on it being an extractor issue, most likely that the extractor is applying too much tension to the case rim causing it to bind rather than slide into place.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.  I meant your "1998" 229 and the 229ST.

Factory mags can be duds.  In my very limited experience the two issues that seem to generate the most problems for highly reliable out of the box guns (Glock, HK , etc.) are shooter error and magazine issues.

I read that you've trained at Valhalla etc. so the chances were low there, but possible.  Mags too are usually good, but not always.  Bad guns from good companies are even a lower probability than the other two but they happen.

A couple years ago Sig was the one company that nobody had a bad thing to say about: they made quality guns and they weren't snobs about it.  Now something is off.

Good luck with it.  Please keep us posted on any developments.

Hi Guys,
I have cooled off a little. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with the gun. I may give Sig another chance or I may just trade it in on annother AR. I'll sleep on it for a little while.

I am so sorry to hear about your problems with your new Sig Sauer Compact and your overall frustration with Sig Sauer.  I've been over at the Sig Forum website and I've heard of some members problems with the external extractors and FTF and FTE.  I have a P220R and a P220 Carry Two Tone bought within a half a year of each other.  I've never experienced any issues with both pistols and I guess I find myself very fortunate.  I like Sig Sauer pistols and hope to own another one - a P220 Compact.  If I do have issues with any of my firearms, I will hope for the best and give the manufacturer the benefit of the doubt that they will make good on their warranty.  I wish you luck that you will resolve your problems with your pistol quickly and without any more heartache.

I have personally had terrible luck with Sigs, and I have seen many others that have also.  I have also seen some that ran like clockwork.  Too much of a gamble IMHO.  Much better options out there for less money.

Geex- and brand new too.  SIgs SUCK!

Was it US made?

It's definately an extractor issue.  Very common. A huge number of the new-style stainless slide internal extractor models got a batch of poorly-made extractors installed.  Since no one hand fits anything these days due to cost, out they go and jam they will.
The extractors just need to be radiused a bit more to allow the cartridge to slip into place and slide to go into battery.
I could have easily fixed mine myself, but the gun was under warranty (P220 Carry) and Sig sent me a shipping label.  I had it back in about 10 days or so.  Ran 100 more trouble-free rounds through it and sold it.  Lost all confidence in that gun.  FWIW, all my old stamped slide Sigs have been extremely accurate and completely reliable.  I eventually got away from Sigs due to my issues with the DA/SA transition.
Bottom line: Sig will make it right, as much as it sucks.  Especially considering they've jacked up the prices such that you can buy TWO good used Glocks for what one Sig costs.

My buddy recently bought the same gun.  He's having the same problem, and it's apparently a common problem with them nowadays.

This was also my best guess, without having seen and played with the gun.

I see this a lot with new guns.  When you purchase a brand new firearm that does work, you should not be paying shipping!  When you have 10K of use, then paying shipping is fair. The company should send you a call tag, or you take it back where you bought it, tell them it does not work, get your money back.  Almost every distributer will credit back a dealer who returns a new POS.

Service grade firearm companies need to get their acts together, customers are paying way to much to be QC'ing their product.  If they want to run their businesses like Kel-Tec, then they should be in KT's price range.  Which, by the way, is not a slam on KT, they are straight forward about how they build their product.

You have basically $3k of garbage, SIG should be sending you call tags and apologizing profusely the whole time.
