I just ordered my first Sig ever. It's a Sig 229 in a 357 sig cal. What are your opinions on this particular Sig and is there anything I should do to it once it arrives? Upgrades or such? It already has night sights so I won't be replacing them most likely. Are they reliable? Does the finish hold up? Anything bad about them? Concealed holster ideas? Thanks guys. -MEI |
I have no opinion on the P229 in .357 SIG. Mine's in .40 S&W. SIGs are extremely reliable. I personally think GLOCKs and SIGs are the best handguns on the market. SIG finish isn't as durable as a GLOCK, but it is pretty good. For concealed holster, if you want inside the waistband, get a Milt Sparks VM2. |

I personally love my Galco holsters, I've had a few different models, and I love them all. The P229 is a fine firearm and you should enjoy years of faithful accurate service from it. (other than Night Sites, and a good holster, I reccomend you stock up on a few factory mags.) -Jason |
Nice holster. I'll give it a look over. Thanks. -MEI |

You haven't even shot the gun and you are already asking questions about "upgrading" it? It seems 1911 disease is spreading to the SIG world. Shoot the silly thing. Run a couple thousand rounds thru it. Then a couple thousand more. Yes they are reliable. The finish is not SIG's strong point tho it seems better than it used to be. Only bad thing is their price tag. Holsters is your call. |

+1 on the extra mags. Look in the EE forum and you can find some deals. I bought 3 used Sig Factory hicaps for $ 40 delivered. If you want to shoot other calibers, get a Factory 40 S&W barrel and a Barto 9mm. I used the same mags for all 3 calibers and never had a problem. |
shouldnt you ahve asked these BEFORE you spent all that cash? |
Are you crazy. Hell no. ![]() That's why its called a disease my friend. -MEI |

My 229 is in 40 S&W. I second the notion of Hogue grips and extra mags. Try $29.99 at CDNN . ETA: the only con I see from my 229 is the long trigger reset. |
+1 |
Bought my First and only SIG P229 in 1996 40sw Most accurate DA Combat handgun I ever had out of the box useing my FAVORITE handloads I can keep all my rounds on a 50 yard small bore rifle Target useing my range bag. target was at 50 yards also I was zeroing my M4 at 50 yards thats why the target BTW A so called INSTRUCTOR told me I wouldnt hit the Target he kept his mouth shut the rest of the day I like the sigs alot maybe I should get another one |
Ive used a IWB Milt sparks since 1996 OUTSTANDING But I Dont care for Glocks |

229R in 9mm is my issue handgun. The controls took some getting used to after spending so much time with either a 45 or an M9. But its growing on me. I dont know about sights, but we have alot of different front and rear sights, I would hate to just purchase one without the chance to shoot it and get the "Right ones for me" prior to spending the money. |

Greeat gun. My 229 is 40. NCSHP has just gone to 229DAK in 357 Sig. I think the caliber is great stopper. I have a conversion barrel in 357 Sig and a 9mm also. I have a CTAC and a Wild Bills concealment holster. The trigger is smooth and mine shoots great. Take it to IDPA competition and practice there and you will appreciate it more. Good gun and try www.copesdistributing.com |

My 229 in .40 has a Nitron finish it is very very tuff, you guys sure you dont have the K-cote? Just asking my wife wears a damn silver ring on her thumb and we were at the range and she was shooting it and we got home I noticed the cocking serrations were all scratched up (the crowbar and sandpit came to mind) but the ring had been scratched off by the right angled milled cocking serrations it was a couple of months later I took some light emory paper and rubbed the silver off and it did not harm the Nitron finish at all. I know the Blue finish will wear off in a leather holster I have no experience with the K-cote. |
