So, I've been shopping around for a Sig 229 for the past week or so and have come across the 229 lr version.  I find the idea of purchasing the 229 as a 22lr and then purchasing one of the conversion kits from Sig at a later date.  Reading the description on the xcaliber conversion kits, I noted that it says that it will work with the 2 step frames only.  What is the difference between a standard and a 2 step frame?  My understanding was that the frame was the same but with a 22lr upper installed on it instead.  I tried searching the forums here and googling it, but found nothing useful.  TIA

They are referring to the "railed frames". The conversion will not work on the P229s without the light rail. They are slightly different. You did say that you were looking to get one with a light rail anyways though right?

ETA: They do make .22LR conversions for non-rail P229s, but I think they are a kind of new product and I have so far only seen them offered from SIG's main website. Good luck. SIG makes great pistols!

I see...  Kinda' strange nomenclature for this.  I'm pretty impartial to the rail/no rail thing.  I guess it's nice to have, though I do like the aesthetics of the non-railed versions.  Thanks for the info!
