Hey guys, I am thinking about coming over to the darkside and getting my first Sig . I am looking at the Sig P226 in 9mm but I am just wondering if the Elite model is worth the extra price over the normal P226. The only options I am aware of that are different is the beaver tail and the SRT (which does sound like a very nice feature) as well as the wood grips. Thanks Guys |

I have two new SIGs: a P226 Equinox and a P229 Elite, both in .40. I also have a 1986-vintage P226 in 9mm. IMO, comparing the Elite to the standard P226 comes down to how you shoot. The beavertail is a useless appendage, at least until you get into rapid fire. Then it comes into its own, allowing greater controllability. The SRT is a nice feature, but I don't think in the real world it's all that much shorter than the normal reset. If possible, try before you buy to see what feels best for you. Oh, and did I mention that the Elite is absolutely beautiful? The standard P226 grips may be a bit thinner, but the wood grips on the Elite are simply elegant. But, again, it's all up to what you want. |

The only Elite series pistol that I've been able to fire was a P229 Elite in .40S&W. In all honesty, I was very impressed with it. I am trying to decide what to think about the Short Reset Trigger. My first impression was that it was the most wonderful creation since the invention of the nudie bar. After a few mags, I began to wonder if the SRT would spoil me and that I would have issues shooting non-SRT pistols. I mean, doing dry-fire drills every night for months with an SRT pistol may screw up my performance with standard reset ones. Then there is the option of sending all my SIGs to the factory to get the SRT installed! hat For me, the extra $200 is probably worth it. I mean, you get night sights standard, wood grips, SRT, front slide serrations and a bevertail. If you price out the options, you'd be spending way more money...that is, if you wanted all of the options. honest, Good luck! |

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Great writeup TannerBoyl! I am in the search for a great overall fullsize 9mm handgun for range use and home defense and the Sig P226 is looking like the winner so far. You are right about the extra options. I think it would be worth the money as I would be getting the nightsites and I like the look of the wood grips. I dont know how the SRT trigger is but I do remember liking the P226 alot when I was able to shoot it. I dont have a chance to shoot the Elite but I am sure that it would be just as sweet. How have your Sigs been holding up? It seems as if the Sig is the only brand where there are more then the usual amounts of complaints with finsih or reliability. I am coming from a HK USP and that gun has been nothing but dead reliable. I just hope the Sig will be the same. Thanks again |
For me, the P229 Elite was every bit as nice as my standard DA/SA P229R and then some. The DA trigger felt the same. I've always felt that the HK USP reset was shorter than the SIG standard trigger reset. If I remember correctly, the SIG SRT has a slightly shorter reset than the HK. It was more like a Glock reset (without the mushy trigger). My SIGs have been holding up very well. They run a little more wet than some of my other pistols. As long as they are lubed, they will run like a top. If there is a thin coat of lube and/or grease on the slide rails and a few drops here and there, they will function perfectly. Just don't lube to the point it runs oil. I've never had any ammo related problems. I prefer to shoot Federal American Eagle and Winchester White Box, but have fed everything from underpowered reloads to steel and aluminum cased ammo. My SIGs have eaten what I've feed them. As far as finish is concerned, SIG's Nitron finish is very nice looking. I just don't think that it stands up to HK's Harsh Environment finish. Nitron is fairly durable. My only real issue is that it scratches relatively easily. It will stay nice if you take care of it. On the other hand, SIG's stainless finish is TITS! I own four stainless SIGs and could not be happier with them. If you have the patience, I would really recommend waiting for the P226 Stainless Elite. It is supposed to be released later this year. If you don't mind the extra weight of the stainless frame, you'll be very happy! |
