Dont know anything about them, have heard they are excellent. Im in the market for my first .45 and am wondering if the 220 is what I should get, also considering a glock 21. Thoughts? My limit is around $500.

You should be able to find a NIB G21 for say $525 from an online Dealer.
The same $525 should get you an Excellent USED P220

They're different beasts altogether though , so I suggest you "try before you buy"

you could easily get a ruger p345 on that budget.  it operates similarly to the sig p220.  they are both da/sa pistols made for condition 2 carry.  and as was said--the glock is a different animal altogether.

I agree that you should try both. But if you want a new P220, your gonna have to shell out around $850, the Glock is about $525. You should also consider the Springfield Armory XD 45acp, new its around $500. Just a thought is all

I have a P220 and have had no problems with it.  It's very accurate and easy to take care of.

I bought mine from a individual at a gun show for $450 LNIB.  You should be able to find a nice used one for $500-550, I see them all the time at gun shows.  They sell new for around $750 here.

Definately check out a P220 at the fun store, or better yet the range.

I wanted a used one so bad I couldn't stand it, until I picked one up at the store, and found that there was no way I could get enough of my hand around it to be comfortable or practical.

Damn crappy genetics!

That said, if it fits you, it's a hell of a weapon...

I like the Sig.  Every single Sig model feels like it was built around my hand.

Both the XD & Glock 21 have more capacity than the Sig P-220. That alone would settle it for me, IMO.

The Glock 21 is uber reliable, shoots soft and has 13 round mags but its honking grip could be a deal breaker.  You never hear any one that is really sad about buying any Sig.  The 220 is a piece of precision equipment so you just need to find out what fits best and find a deal.

When all else is equal, capacity will tip the scale, IMO.

I love my 220. This coming from a 1911 nut, who sitched to a G30 for CC. I seen the newer Sigs & the 220 had a rail & nite-sites. Besides it was a .45

BobCole...love that sig line

I have them all and have been carrying for over 30 years. My carry gun is a beaten up blue  .45 457 S&W in a Bianchi #5 black widow.  I have 35 handguns, j , k, l, n, frames, 1911's Sig P220 etc. and yet I carry one of the cheapest $515 new.

The 457 DOA is a very reliabile accurate handgun 1000's of rounds out of it never a falter. It's smaller than most .45's. I carry it because of that and it is the most comfortable gun I've carried in that high riding Bianchi.

It's so cheap I don't care if it gets all beaten up  and you can get a used one for less than $400.
As Forest Gump said, and that's all I have to say about that.

The best "feel" I ever experienced was a Sig 220.
Ergos fit me perfect. Never shot one.
G21 I have shot. Very little recoil. I like it. As far as feel, its a fullsized Glock.
If I had the coin I would like to buy a 220

The SIG 220 series is considered by many, myself included, as the finest "out of the box" .45 money can buy.

Let's skip the 1911 vs all-other-.45's debate.

P220, hands down.

I am beginning to feel that way as well.............I am thinking of trading my Glock for a SIG
