have the oppurtunity to pic up a P220 in .45 at a decnt price.

However it is an older heel style mag release gun. Will these models accept the newer button release mags or not?

The current style stainless eight round magazines will not work. The earlier style (non-SS) with the flat steel floorplate should fit a pistol with the European heel type magazine latch. The Euro style magazines are out there but they are semi-hard to find.

thanks for the info. From the pics I saw of it, this is also one of the "Assembled by RPS" guns that nobody seems to know the history of

You might call Sig with the S/N and see what they can tell you. FWIW, all the "Assembled by RPS" marked P220's I have seen were originally made in .38 Super Auto and converted by RPS to 9MM when they were imported to the states. Do the frame, slide and barrel have matching S/N's?
