I have read old post about people having issues with the reliability of the 229 in 40 caliber and some 9mm.  Are there certain era of 229's that are better and preferred over others in the same model?  I see some with long extractors and short ones also the outer and inner roll pins and two other variations.  I ask since I just purchased  a CPO P229 in 40 but plan on getting a 357Sig barrel since I do have access to the ammo and I like the way it shoots.

Stop reading what other people post on the internet and go shoot the gun. If you have issues, then seek help.

You should have no issues with swapping a SIG 357 barrel out on a 40S&W P229. The gun is designed to do such a thing.

I had two Sig 229's in recent years. I sold them both, but not because anything was mechanically wrong with them. I have heard some say that they are having problems with the models with the newer slide. The pistol pictured above has the older "legacy" slide, characterized by the stepped, half serrations on the back of the slide. The legacy slide models are said to be (by online operators) of higher quality. Not sure if it is true or not, but both of mine had the legacy slide and had no issues. Can't speak to the newer models.

I have a P229 with the new slide and long extractor and have had no issues whatsoever after 1000 rounds. One of the most accurate Sig's I have ever shot. My only complaint is the ergonomic grip. Just not  to my liking so I replaced them with Hogue rubber grips.

Went out today to shoot my Sig P229 40 cal  CPO and it functioned perfectly through the 100 rounds fired.  I am waiting for three magazines ordered, OEM stamped made in Italy for only 17.04.  Need some night sights and then a 357 Sig barrel.
