The question is for those who have one are have fired the 232 in both alloy and stainless. The weight difference is just about five ounces, is the recoil that much different between the two. Looking at this for my wife. Had planned on a Walther CCP but not sure I want to be the first to own one. The Sig is time tested just want to see if the five ounce difference is felt between the two or to what degree. If or when she gets her concealed carry that five ounces could mean something. If the stainless shoots so much better because of the added weight she would enjoy the benefit of a much reduced recoil over the alloy. Explained it poorly hope you can understand.

First rule: let your wife decide which pistol is best for her. A lot of guys immediately think a .380 is the way to go since it's a smaller cartridge. But many .380s, including the P232 are direct blowback, which will result in a fair amount of felt recoil as well as harder to manipulate slides (stronger spring to deal with direct blowback).

So although it's natural to think that women, generally being smaller, will like smaller pistols, it's often that they prefer mid to full sized because they absorb recoil.

If you're stuck on the P232, I would say get the all stainless

Agree on her picking her own that's why I am looking again. We have been to the range several times and getting info on the few she wants to look at.

I have a Sig P230 in all stainless and it has more recoil than you would expect.  I generally don't like Glocks but I fired a Glock 42 and the gun had less felt recoil and seemed to be accurate enough.  Just throwing it out there as the difference in felt recoil to me was significant.

Thanks that the kind of info I am looking for. Not trying to pick her gun but could save a lot of time in her picking her next one. Her first gun was a J frame with light loads only because she didn't want to take the time with a semi auto. Now that she has spent some time shooting she hates her Smith and is willing to take the extra time learning and practicing.

232 is sweet to shoot, don't have steel version but have PPK/s and there is not much difference. Grip on 232 is fatter than other single stock and you have first shot double action.
