So what do you guys think of the P232? Is it a decent handgun for the money? Should I just keep my Tomcat and not bother with the Sig? This will be used strictly for warm weather packing because my Glock 19 kind of turned into a pain in the ass when I started dressing lightly because of the warmer temps. |
| There is a thread like this every couple of weeks. They are good guns. But they have two real drawbacks. The round is the bare minimum for defensive use, but if you do your part it will do its part. The real problems are the heal mag release and the lack of an external slide stop. The latter can make it a pain to clear a jam, and the one I had jammed too much for me. I personally think that for the money and size, you might just as well buy a Kahr 9mm pistol--either polymer or steel. |

I have a 232 (blued). The finish evaporated on the blued slide faster than you can say "oxidation". The version to get has the stainless slide and the aluminum frame if you are going to carry it up close and personal. My Sig has run 100% and is reasonably accurate (in my hands). It came with a decent set of sights and the trigger pull (while not great) is serviceable. The stock grips are too wide- they are by far the widest part of the pistol, so ignore the width measurements you see. Probably something to do with the GCA of 68's infamous "points" system (import restrictions on small pistols). The price is high, but Sigs have never been known as bargain basement specials. You get used to the heel mag release but I have never learned to "like" it much. I like the way the pistol points. The slide does not bite my hand, unlike the Walther PPK, which leaves "railroad tracks". As for the caliber, well, this is a time in which it might be best to wait. I really like my Sig 232- I carry it a good deal. I wish Sig made an identical pistol (locked breech, obviously) chambered in 9mm. My personal experience with Kahr products has been dismal, unfortunately. I really would strongly prefer a 9mm. Demand exists for a reliable single stack (read SLIM) 9mm concealment pistol. Kahr is out for me personally, which leaves the new Keltec (never owned one) and rumors about the new Walther single stack. It is obvious that Glock should make one, well, obvious to everyone except Glock, Inc. ![]() As a 232 owner I would say the pistol has become close (not yet) to obsolete by the emergence of slim single stack 9mms. If you have a need RIGHT NOW, then the Sig is most likely not a mistake. Best of luck, I hate these kinds of compromises. |
