Hey guys I am looking into getting a new handgun and I like what I seen from Sig so far.
I was wondering if I would get a P226 elite dark in 40, could I just buy a 357 sig barrel and drop it in and shoot 357 sig? What about swapping in a threaded 9mm Barrel? What would I all need to do the conversion? (Barrel, Magazines??) I am leaning towards a 9mm but I would like to have the option to swap barrels and use some of my 40 and 357 sig ammo. I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks, Ringo328 |

That was the same criteria I had when I was buying my SIG. I got a P229 DA/SA in .40S&W.
Like others have said, you can drop in the .357 barrel and use the .40 mags. Bar-sto and EKFireDragon 9mm barrels can go in as well. I haven't gotten a 9mm barrel for mine yet, but in researching, the bar-sto barrels are more likely to need some fitting to work properly. The FireDragon barrels are straight drop-ins. Although I think that the Bar-sto barrels are labelled "semi-Drop in" barrels. Another tid bit that I've read was that you might not want to carry a .40 gun with a 9mm conversion barrel as your CCW weapon. The extractor is made for the .40 cartridge and may be ever so slightly too large for the 9mm and cause failure to extract issues when you really don't want it to. Lastly, you can then get the .22LR conversion kit, so in the end you have 4 different calibers in one package. |

I want to convert my .40 P226 to .357 as I have other .40's want something different. Don't want to do it if it's not 100% reliable though
I also read that .357 through a gun designed for .40 will cause acclerated wear. Is there any truth to this? What is the structural difference between the P226 made in .40 vs the P227 in .357? |
| I have done what you are asking about with a P229R DAK. I bought it in a .40 , and picked up .357 Sig and 9mm barrels for it. I use the .40/.357 mags for all 3 calibers without issue for range use. Sights are real close between the .40 and .357 Sig, but way low with the 9mm. You might want to post your questions over at sigforum.com. Alot of knowledgeable folks over there. Good luck. |

Good point. Never thought about the POI and the sights with the barrel changes. Are you using SIG nite sights? |

I have a 357 barrel for my .40 and I have a Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel....
I have no problem with my sites you'll be fine. I also use my .40/357 mags to shoot 9mm ammo out of them and they function fine as well. I got mine from here and they are good guys! http://tacticalgungear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=95 |
