I am looking into either a Sig 1911 or Springfield Loaded 1911. Just wanting some opinions on the mentioned handguns. Thanks.

I have both and the Sigs are good guns but my springers seem to just feel more 'solid.'   I'm not sure how you'd quantify that but it's my perception.    Obviously, the higher end of either brand will feel better than the lower end of either brand.    My TRP is a much better gun than my champion, but the TacOps my buddy has is also better than my low end springers.   Are they $400-600 better?   That's up to you

Here's my Loaded models:

An "NM" prefix serial numbered Springfield is hard to beat performance/value wise for the price. I like Springfield's much better than Sigs....... but Sig 1911's are just fine, especially the more recently manufactured ones.

I've had a Sig C3 since the week before Christmas....I've now run 850 rds through it, and have not had the first problem.....it works well with the factory supplied magazines, and the KimPro's that I have for my Ultra Raptor II.....I've shot WWB, Speer Gold Dot, and my own loads through it.....excellent gun.....

Tell me more about the NM myth.

GSR, FTMFW

Full Disclosure: This was one of the originals, I don't know how the new ones compare...

I have a Springfield Ultra Compact .45 that is my primary carry firearm. I love it, but it has caused me some grief. After about 500 rounds I started to have problems with rounds not loading (the round would  point up so the tip of the bullet would hit the top of the barrel) and I had problems with spent brass getting caught in the ejection port. I tried all different brands of ammo and that changed none of my problems.

I contacted Springfield and did a RMA. They had it for about 3 weeks and eventually ended up replacing the entire slide for me. Since I've gotten it back i had had none of my earlier problems.I trust it with my life daily.

The myth is they come with one piece barrels instead of the normal 2-piece one.

I haven't seen a 2 piece barrel from Springfield in some time...f you look at even the "lowly" (priced only) G.I. or Mil-Spec they both have one piece stainless barrels...but the NM marked ones are finished in Geneseo rather than Brasil...

SA. Not really even close IMHO.

SIG offers a lot of features for the money.  They also use better parts in my opinion.  The external extractor can be a turn-off for some, but if it works, it works, and requires no real adjustment.   Most of my 1911s have internal extractors, so I'm not above owning a couple with external versions.

It's often said that Springfield's NM guns are better fit than the Brazilian N-marked models, and all I can say is that if that's true, I'd hate to own a Brazil gun.  The last Springfield NM-marked gun I bought had a pretty sloppy fit and finish, required a lot of minor tweaks to get it working correctly, and shot poor groups due to the ho-hum barrel fit... but it was "within spec" for Springfield.

Here are some pics comparing an N Springfield to an NM one.  The N is on the right.

Hahah, ok. I have had both "N" and "NM" prefix Springfield's. A Mil-Spec and a Loaded. Both have been flawless in thousands of rounds. The "NM" has a tighter barrel lock up, slide to frame fit, and a nicer finish than the "N" model. The NM is more accurate but..... it has a better trigger and has the target barrel so that is probably why. But as to the tighter lock up, slide to frame fit, and nicer finish, thats why I like the NM Springfield better.

Bradd...your pics are similar to those of a buddy's and my stainless Mil-Specs bought in 2005...same dealer, shipped same day but obviously not the same...the front sights were different too...I will say that both shoot equally as well as the other but mine (the NM) was finished nicer in my opinion...
