Alright, I just ordered a set of Trijicons for my Series I Ultra. Rumor has it that the stock sights may be a "wee touch" tighter than other manufacturers.  How much of a PITA is swaping sights going to be?

My advice to you is to cut the front sight off... you may have cut the rear sight too.
Too install new sights get a really strong sight mover.  It took me two nights to remove the front sight and about two hours to remove the rear sight.  It took 4 or 5 hours to get the new sight installed.  I just use a brass hammer followed by a steel claw hammer and then finally finished with a small sledge hammer.  I also destroyed 2 delrin punch, 5 or 6 brass punch and then one steel punch to get the job completed.  It looks great when completed.  Do you have a stong vice on your work bench?  You'll need it.

BTW old sights come out to the port side and new sights will have to go in from the port side.

Rodger that, out the port side, in the port side.

If I have to, I'll take the slide into work and use the Bridgeport after hours to remove the stock sights. One wonders what is the point of a lock screw on the rear sight unit if they can't easilly  be driven out though.

I had to send my slide to Kimber for a sight change. The rear would not budge.

The Trijicons just showed up today.  We will try the sight swap on Monday.  Will start by leaving the slide out in the Arizona sun to get hot and then try chilling the sights to see if it will help any.

Got them in,  We did have a falure to communicate though,  I drove them out the port side (as opposed to starboard.  I'm thinking they should have been driven out the ejection port side given the taper on the stock sights

I sent mine away and trijicon installed them for me, got back last week shooting right, untightened allen wrench and will not budge.  Do I need a sight mover just to budge it a little?

The kimber rear dovetail is very tight.  You should be able to drift the sight over with a brass punch though.  We eyballed the sights while installing mine and it shoots dead to aim (left right) at 10 yards.  In the pictures above, the wood used to pad the vise jaws is a piece of red oak I got at Home Depot for around a buck.

Ok, is it true thet you have to slide them from right to left only?  Thanks for the info, I can tell just from looking at mine that they did not put it back in the middle.  Ben

The stock sights had a taper to them, such that I would have driven them out left to right had I known about the taper, since I drove them out the left side, it obviously didn't matte in the end..  The trijicons had a dual taper.
