Does AIWB feel any better with a holster vs Mexican carry?

I've been trying different gun positions with my unloaded Shield in my house. Sitting is very uncomfortable with the back of the slide/butt of frame jabbing into my stomach.

I know a quality holster is important, but I can't see how having my gun near my 1:00 is comfortable at all.

Have your belt loose enough that you can shift it a bit.

I wouldn't bother without a holster if you're interested in concealment or comfort

I agree. Just trying holster less to see if I like the idea

2 things make AIWB comfortable for me.

1. Good purpose-built AIWB holster. You won't need to wear your belt as tight to keep from printing. I use the Raven Eidolon for my G19 and G26.

2. An undershirt. I wear hot weather under armor sleeveless undershirts. The material is comfortable even in hot weather, and it lets the pistol slide up while sitting instead of digging into my stomach.

Also, I find AIWB to be more comfortable with a less stiff belt than one would traditionally use for other carry positions.

Couple of things make AIWB more comfortable - a good appendix holster with some sort of concealment device(wing, claw, wedge, etc), a slightly less stiff belt, and good body proportions.

In all seriousness some body types physically play better with appendix carry than others, but a holster with adjustable clips(which is virtually all holsters today) will allow you to find the right ride height and cant to carry and conceal comfortably.

Body type also plays into the comfort.  I have previous injuries that make even IWB rather uncomfortable but they have gotten better over time.  AIWB is still uncomfortable as Hell for me I know plus size people who have larger bellies it may not work either.  Myself being a rather slender guy it might work but prior injuries just do not allow me to do it comfortably.

I have been carrying at 12:00 position for 12 years. It is a perfect fit because there is a void in that area between the hip bones. Sitting or standing have no effect because the rig is between your legs, when you sit your pelvis is still pretty much straight. I have been carrying a G27 in a Comptac CTAC and it works perfectly, just recently got a G42 and CTAC for it and it works even better of course.

A full size probably wouldn't work well like this due to the barrel digging into your penile shaft.

This is from about 10 years ago, I am fatter now but the method still works.

How bout "a trip to the gay club" tight clothing( LOL, I don't wear shirts like this, it was just to show how well it concealed)

Another question for the AIWB guys....do you have to wear your pants higher or lower on your hips to make sitting comfortable? Anything like that?

I wear them normal height, then casually pull them up an inch or two as I sit. It doesn't take much.

This is also with a G19 length holster that I use for both the 19 and 26.

I bet I wouldn't need to do anything if I was carrying the 26 in its own holster. It just doesn't bother me enough to worry about it.

I carry a G19. Might be a little long to sit comfortably but I'm going to get some longer pants that I can afford to hitch up a bit without them looking way too short. We'll see.

I wear mine just below my belly button old man style. Which really helps carrying a Glock 17 AIWB from digging into my thigh when I sit.

I will also echo the importance of an undershirt tucked in, I also wear an under armour. The slick material really helps the holster flow with your movement.

Another very important part is a super rigid belt to help prevent your holster from drooping outward making it look like a weird shaped gut or growth haha. I Also prefer a slight forward cant for bigger guns so the butt doesnt print out of the side of my shirt.

When I carry my 19 with no light I can just plop down and not even think twice about it, no comfort issues to note at all. However I carry it with an X300 almost all of the time now, so I do pull the front of my belt up just an inch or so when I sit and it takes care of the poking issues.

Some tips

Dont wear hip hungers normal hight jeans that are one size larger then normal with a good belt makes AIWB comfortable all day sitting or standing Also I adjust my holster pretty high this gives me a great draw and it keeps me from always needing to adjust my pants when I sit. One belt clip plus and under shirt allows the gun to move around when you flex or go up and down. I wear a good belt and use a good quality holster that is as minimal as possible. The only problem I havent been able to solve is the grip sticking out.

I carry a G19 in and incog holster with a belt man belt. I am 170lbs and 5'11".
