I am interested in picking up another 1911 for my farm truck gun, and I want to go old school for this one.  A GI 1911-A1 with parkerized finish is one type of 1911 that I currently do not own, and I think it would be perfect for this type of rough duty use.

My first thought was a Springfield Armory Mil Spec parkerized, price is right, got that classic look, and has a warranty, but they seem to be a bit hard to come by as of late.

The Sistema 45s have also piqued my interest.  Matching serial numbers and all original finish is not what I am after, instead I would like to find one that is sound, and only needs a bit of TLC and prep work to be parkerized.  Are decent Sistemas at reasonable prices still available other than the lucky gun show or pawn shop find?  If so, which distributors might have these available.

If the Sistema prices have gone up too much it would seem that the SA would be the way to go.

Which route would you recommend for this type of gun?

If you can find one, a Ballester Molina or Ballester Rigaurd would be perfect. They are very well built, use several 1911 parts and mags, and can be bought for a reasonable price. That is except for mine. I would not sell mine for anything close to a reasonable price.

A Sistema would also be a good choice. But, in the current market, for a few dollars more you get a warranty with an SA USGI repro.

As usual, the prices on Gunbroker are high. There is one auction on that page with a reasonable bid.

A base RIA 1911 would make a good truck gun IMO.
