I have decided to send my Colt Series 70 to Ted Yost for his 1* package.  Here is my delima.  Should I have the night sites instaled on the Novaks or have his trademark gold inlaid front site with standard black rear site.

Night sights would be better I would think.

I like the looks of the gold inlay.....but night sights are much more practical.

Much more.

Without trying to start a night sight vs. regular sight debate... If you anticipate shooting at night you should have a flashlight, period. Tritium inserts will help you index the sight and not much else. And the same goes for Ted’s gold line front sight. Carry a flashlight...

Both Tritium inserts and Ted’s gold line front serve the purpose of a quick front sight index. One basically “works” during all hours of the day and one works during the hours of daylight.

Basically, during daylight hours Ted’s gold line front (for me) is fast and a much better index that a Tritium dot. During the hours of darkness Tritium glows... the gold line don’t.

Night sights if you're going to use it for self defense, gold line if it's a range/target gun.

1st I always carry a Sure Fire.  2nd the gun will be a defensive weapon when I am able to cover it up.  Would the gold not reflect enough light from the Surefire if had to be used at night?

Neither the gold line nor a tritium insert will make that much of a difference if you have a flashlight. Using your light properly will provide a backlight of sorts that will silhouette your sights against your target.
