| The slide stop fell off of my Combat Commander and I couldn't find it. Who makes the best replacement? |
| that is very strange. I would call Colt and see if they'll replace it for you. Otherwise Wilson bulletproofs are top notch. My advice is that you buy two and have a smith fit them (yes, drop-in parts like slide stops should be fitted). The smith won't charge you any more for two and you will have a fitted replacement should you ever need it. |
It's worth the fitting, trust me. I had some fucking company try to void the LT warranty on me because there was this horrible peening on the slide stop notch over use with an unfitted Wilson SS. There was more to the story than that, but for the sake of simplicty I suggest you get them fitted. In fact, looking at Bill Wilson's 1911 first aid kit he suggests that among the replacement recoil springs, etc that you keep 2 spare fitted slide stops for your weapon in case of breakage. |

I think one of the oddest things on a 1911 is the slide stop....literally from stop to stop I rarely see them dimensionally the same on production guns. I have had a slide stop do this very thing on a Springfield loaded but I caught it in time. Put a Wilson on the same gun and never had another issue. Buy a Wilson Bulletproof Slide stop and while you are at it, either Ed Brown or Wilson makes an xtra strength plunger and spring assembly that you had might as well add while you are at it. |
It fell in tall grass, we dug through it for about 15 minutes and finally I gave up. I might go back out there tomorrow. |

Get one of those big magnets on a stick they sell at Lowe's or Home Depot for picking up nails and such at construction sites, that'll help you find it. However, if it's that loose, get yourself an Ed Brown Hardcore or a Wilson BulletProof version, and forget the magnet and the lost slide stop. |
