I just got an SIS full size and with the kim-pro mags and CMC 10rnd mags the slide will lock back with rounds still in the magazine. Whenever it does this I notice that the top round in the magazine it pushed about 1/3 of the way forward. These are brand new magazines. I have used wilson 8rnd mags and this hasn't happened...yet. Weak magazine spring or what?

Does it happen when there are only a certain amount of rnds left in the mag?

One of my older kimber factory mags used to lock back the slide on the last round whenever i loaded 5 rnds. The slide would lock back and the round would just be sitting ontop of the magazine

Yes, it has been when I load 5 rounds. However I don't know if this the only issue because all I have ever loaded is 5 rounds at a time per round of fire so far with this pistol. It doesn't just lock back of the last round either, it will lock back on the 2nd or even 3rd round from empty...what is going on?

Call up customer service and tell them you need a modified slide stop.  Sometimes the bullet hits the inside of the slide stop and makes it prematurely lock open, they file a little bit of the slide stop and that solves the problem.

Check to see if there is copper on the slidestop as I had on my slidestop.  I ended up buying an Ed Brown slidestop so in case I filed off too much I have a backup.

This. "Premature slide lock"

If the bullets (tips) slide up in the mag (prematurely) they'll hit the slide stop up. Kimber know about this as they already have the modified slide stop pre-packaged. They will send you one free of charge

I had the same issue with my SIS Ultra.  Definitely give Kimber a call for the modified slide stop, but save yourself more hassle and just get yourself an Ed Brown slide stop from Midway or Brownells.  The replacement from Kimber didnt stop my Ultra from having the premature slide lock problem.  I dropped the Ed Brown SS in and it runs like a champ now.  The Ed Brown SS also fits much better.

There is a BIT of copper now that I look at it. I will probably go with a new slide stop. I will look into the Ed Brown, I was kind of wanting an extended slide stop anyways as my thumb can't quite reach it without having to shift the gun a bit in my hand. Any opinions on a good extended model slide stop?

Which slide stop from Ed Brown are you guys referring to?  I looked on brownells website and they list 2 different ones, the basic 1911 auto and the 1911 auto hardcore.  Which one is the better to get or should I try to file down my existing slide stop?  I already had Kimber send me the modified slide stop but it still does the same thing.

I just ordered a Wilson Combat Bullet Proof slide stop that will hopefully correct the same issue with my Pro Carry.

I had the same issue with my Custom Crimson Carry II.  I called Kimber, and they sent me a modified slide stop.  New part came in just 3 days.  I measured the new one compared to the original, and it wasn't as thick as the original, so it doesn't get hit by the last round as it comes up through the mag.

Range report - the Wilson Combat Bullet Proof slide stop seems to have fixed my problem of premature slide lockback.
